[prMac.com] Boston, Mass - Media 100, a leading provider of advanced editing systems for the corporate, broadcast, postproduction, and new media industries, today announced that Sirk Productions edited and sound designed SEVERE CLEAR using Media 100 Suite. SEVERE CLEAR is a documentary based on the memoir by First Lieutenant Mike Scotti as well as video footage shot by him and other members of 1st Battalion, 4th Marines on the outset of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The film premiered at the 2009 SXSW Film Festival and was awarded a Special Mention for Cinematic Excellence at the 2009 Rome International Film Festival. It is opening in theaters in New York and Los Angeles in March.
A loyal Media 100 customer since 1998, Sirk Productions is currently using two Media 100 Suite systems for television shows, corporate videos, commercials, and films. SEVERE CLEAR was constructed off combat footage that was never originally intended for a film - from multiple sources and formats, ranging from Hi8 to MiniDV. Sirk Productions used a KONA 3 card to acquire the footage with Media 100 Suite and upconvert from SD to HD.
"Media 100 is the most reliable and easy-to-use editing system in the industry," commented Marc Perez, President, Sirk Productions. "Its rock-solid stability and intuitiveness allow for an extremely efficient workflow."
In SEVERE CLEAR, Sirk Productions made extensive use of Media 100 Suite's audio mixing features. With Media 100 Suite, editors can assign multiple audio tracks to virtual buses and process each bus separately in the timeline. Perez noted, "Media 100's audio features provide a level of functionality comparable to dedicated audio workstations."
Sirk Productions takes advantage of Media 100 Suite's broad codec support, regularly using DVCPRO HD, DV, ProRes 422 HQ, and Media 100 HD codecs on their timelines. In addition, compatibility with Apple Final Cut Pro allows Sirk Productions to easily integrate with other facilities.
Concluded Perez, "Media 100 Suite is our 'go to' editing system for film and television projects. Over the past few years, Media 100 has gained a lot of ground, and it gives us confidence moving into the future. We look forward to taking advantage of Media 100 Suite Version 1.5's new media management capabilities, especially for large projects."
About SEVERE CLEAR
SEVERE CLEAR is based on the memoir by First Lieutenant Mike Scotti as well as video footage shot by him and other members of 1st Battalion, 4th Marines on the outset of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Through their cameras, viewers see the raw sounds of war, capturing the harrowing three hundred mile charge to Baghdad through hostile enemy territory. The footage used to create SEVERE CLEAR was never shot for the purpose of making a movie. In this digital age of embedded reporters, the film truly strips the barriers between audience and soldier, personalizing the fear, moral conundrum, and adrenaline rush of life on the battlefield. SEVERE CLEAR offers an unflinching look at the uncertainty, disorder, and chaos of war from the remarkable perspective of one Marine.
