[prMac.com] Sydney, Australia - Theresa Lim has released When I Grow Up 1.0 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. When I Grow Up (Vol.1) is the first personalized children's storybook app that will let you embed photos of your child and his/her mother into the story - you are the characters! Your child can decide what occupations he/she would like to have when they grow up, and then see what he/she will look like dressed up for these vocations (e.g. zookeeper, doctor, teacher etc.). In its first week of sales in June, Apple put it in the "New and Noteworthy" and "What's Hot" categories for books.
Collaborating Across Borders:
Theresa decided to work with IntuApps, a New York-based company, and used the time zone difference to her advantage. Emails and occasional phone calls were done after she had put her kids to sleep. Theresa would wake up and check her emails to see what progress had been made, then provided her input as necessary. "I enjoyed working with IntuApps on this project; they were truly a partner in bringing my book to life, and thoroughly professional and knowledgeable. I could not have done this without them."
"I asked IntuApps to illustrate the child character as gender neutral as possible because I want both girls and boys to feel that they are not limited to specific occupations," says Theresa. "I'm really looking forward to creating new occupations in this series of books to inspire kids to be anything that they want to be!"
When I Grow Up Series:
The key appeal of "When I Grow Up (Vol. 1)" is that by embedding photos of the child and his or her mother into the story, the inscribed familiarity of the images will be inspirational to the child, and spark their imagination and excitement - when you are the characters, the story becomes alive!
"I am really excited about how children will be reading now." says Theresa. "The animation, graphics, and interactivity of storybook apps make reading even more amazing. The portability of devices such as the iPod, iPhones and iPads means that children can be reading anytime, anywhere. Parents don't need to feel guilty about this form of leisure as it isn't a mindless video game or TV show. I'm working on Volume 2 now with the Daddy instead of Mommy character. I'm so proud that mostly by word of mouth, my book is now read in all continents."
