[prMac.com] Richardson, Texas - With the release of Dolch Sight Words: Learn to Read 2.0, Steep Turn Software LLC hopes to improve children's reading fluency by providing an engaging alternative to paper flash cards.
Dolch Sight Words: Learn To Read teaches children to recognize sight words. It includes the entire Dolch Word List and the Dolch Nouns. The words are presented to children one at a time, similar to traditional flash cards. A big improvement on traditional flash cards, though, is that the app can speak each word. This allows children to practice independently and get immediate feedback. The app also allows new words to be created and recorded. This allows parents and teachers to tailor the app toward current school lessons.
In 2.0, the user interface of Dolch Sight Words: Learn to Read has been completely redesigned with two goals in mind. The first is to make the app easier for children to use. The second goal is to to encourage longer practice sessions by making the app more visually appealing to children. The new user interface includes larger buttons, more colorful user interface elements and simpler navigation.
Steep Turn Software LLC believes the app has many advantages over paper flash cards, which are the traditional way of teaching sight words. Like many adults, children seem drawn to the iPhone's polished interface, which can motivate them to practice more frequently. Also, parents can practice with children whenever they have their iPhone with them, such as in the car or waiting in line. Finally, recorded pronunciations of the words make it easier for children to practice on their own.
