[prMac.com] Berlin, Germany - nova media today released iHub Basic, Version 2.0, for Mac OS X. The new version has been rewritten from scratch, features a new GUI and adds the ability to automatically configure the server as well as any client Macs, iPhones, iPads and iPod touch. iHub Basic synchronises contacts and calendars automatically between Macs and iOS devices in a local network and does not require expensive server solutions or extra client software.
"iHub has been very well received, but it missed a dead simple way of configuration." states Jan Fuellemann, PR spokesperson at nova media. "So we added a wizard for the server setup and assistants for Mac and iOS clients. Now, you just have to select which contacts and calendars you want to share and iHub Basic will take care of the configuration details. iHub Basic is thus perfect fit for any small or home office and for everyone who does not want to store his data on a cloud service far, far away."
iHub Basic needs only to be installed on one Mac, which will act as the server. The installed iHub contact and calender server will run in the background of the Mac and does not interfere in any day to day operation. It is also not required to have any user logged into the Mac at all to acces shared data.
Any Mac client uses the preinstalled Address Book and iCal to access the shared data, as any iOS device uses the preinstalled contacts and calendar app.
To access shared data with a Mac, iHub Basic creates a program called 'iHub Assistant' which has to be copied to the client Mac. It will automatically add and configure the necessary contact and calendar accounts.
To access shared data with an iOS device, iHub Basic creates a configuration profile, which can be sent via e-mail to the iOS device. It will automatically add and configure the necessary contact and calendar accounts.
In addition, iHub Basic 2.0 includes a new installer, new manuals, bug fixes and improves the overall stability.
