[prMac.com] Novato, California - 7twenty7 LLC today is pleased to announce the release of Videoscope 1.0 for iPhone 4 and 4th-generation iPod touch devices. Videoscope turns the iOS device into a real-time video processor with multiple interactive effects, including a kaleidoscope, a 3D pinscreen, and a particle generator. Users can choose from either the front or rear camera of their device, and save or email still images from the live effects.
Videoscope takes advantage of both cameras and the advanced GPU processing power of the latest iOS devices to create amazing and interactive effects in the palm of your hand. The app contains three separate video effects that can use either the front camera, the rear camera, or a still image from the device's photo library. Users can also pause the incoming video feed or take a snapshot of the processed effect to save or email.
The Kaleidoscope mode works just like a real kaleidoscope, splitting the incoming video into a mirrored and repeating pattern that is simply mesmerizing. The device's accelerometer is used to further drive the effect. The Pinscreen mode creates and animates 3D geometry based on the luminance of the incoming video. Finally, the Impressionist mode generates particles from the video, turning your live video into a living painting. The particles can be manipulated through multi-touch input. Additional modes and further interaction will be available in future updates.
Videoscope uses a custom OpenGL ES 2.0 shader-based engine to process video frames in real-time and render effects at the maximum 640x960 resolution of the Retina Display. The video frames can drive each mode of the app independently to produce diverse effects, including the multifaceted Kaleidoscope, the generated 3D geometry of the Pinscreen, and the interactive particles of the Impressionist mode.
