[prMac.com] London, United Kingdom - Foliobook is the first iPad app released by software start-up "Rocket Garden". Founder and designer Paul Freeman says "we created the Foliobook Hall Of Fame to showcase some of the fabulous work that is being created by the users of our app, we made a big effort to create a design that puts our users work at the forefront without cluttering it up with unnecessary 'visual junk'.
Our job isn't to put our own branding first, but to let the work of our users, and their branding speak loudest. When we saw the way that The Operators had embedded Foliobook in their impressive multi-media award winning entry we were flattered by the fact they'd chosen our app for the interactive element. We immediately wanted to sign them up for our Hall of Fame feature to show people just what great work people are doing with our app"
Foliobook is the iPad portfolio app that is leading the market in the worlds of professional advertising and fashion photography amongst the top photographers and creatives. The Operators are one of London's leading creative photographic retouching and CGI studio. They chose Foliobook as part of their award winning entry in PDN's promotion awards.
The Operators benefitted from the lack of intrusive branding in creating an award entry for the PDN awards that combined a variety of media. As industry specialists working on worldwide campaigns across print, film and online media they needed a consistent and impressive way to present work in all those media to their potential clients. In only four years The Operators have built an impressive client base, including leading advertising agencies and award winning photographers.
The Operators PDN award submission involved commissioning a hand made artists 'book' which acted as the iPad's case. The combination of craftsmanship in the binding creates an organic and warm feeling for the shiny perfection of the iPad. The Operators work is ideally placed and counterpointed within a combination of traditional craft values and up to the minute digital tech. "We thought that was particularly impressive" says Freeman, "the combination of technology and craft seems to be a key element of The Operators brand, and we were so impressed with this we wanted to make sure that it gained the oxygen of publicity through our Hall of Fame"
While Foliobook is only one of a number of iPad apps trying to win the custom of top end image professionals and photographers, it is consistently one of the highest grossing iPad apps on the app store in that category. In coming releases it will feature the optional inclusion of video as well as extensive capabilities that the developers won't speak about in detail but which according to Freeman means that "Foliobook will become a promotional platform for image creators that will go far wider than the iPad itself, becoming part of the changing dynamic of how photographers and other image creators can communicate with their ever changing audiences as the internet, digital television and social networks converge".
Unusually Foliobook has been created by a small team that includes photographers and cutting edge technologists who can integrate social networking, artificial intelligence and 2D animation. The introduction of new platforms like the iPad and iPhone offer opportunities to small software houses like Rocket Garden to try new things at low risk. Foliobook is probably just the beginning of a new wave of promotional tools for professional image makers that offer a way to make the iPad form part of a consistent branding across a variety of media while offering the 'magic' of the touch experience.
