[prMac.com] Tel Aviv, Israel - RedleX today is pleased to announce the release of Mellel 2.8, its leading word processor for Mac OS X, just released in the Mac App Store. Mellel is the first major word processor not made by Apple to join the store.
Earlier, in late January, RedleX sliced Mellel's price, and announced a free unlimited upgraded policy for all buyers of Mellel.
The Mac App Store, offering applications for the Mac, was launched early in January, but is as yet to gain the addition of major applications in some key areas. Apart from applications by Apple itself, the store does not contain general purpose applications for presentations, spreadsheet and, until now, not even word processing.
"We were a bit surprised by the fact that major products and some major developers are still missing from the Mac App Store," claims Eyal Redler, co-founder and CTO at RedleX. "We were sure that going to the Mac App Store a few weeks after it opened we will be late in arrival. It seems, instead, that we're a bit early," he adds.
Mellel is a mature product, with a long standing reputation among scholars and writers as a strong, stable work-horse, fit for complex, arduous and demanding writing tasks. "The Mac App Store will drive us in new directions," says Redler, "as it allows us to access people who are not professional writers, but simply want an affordable, dependable writing tool."
The Mac App Store has already seen some early success stories, with small developers making inroads into new crowds. RedleX hopes that Mellel would achieve the same.
