BlockArt for iOS asks, is 2D better than 3D

in Entertainment (E)

[] Goteborg, Sweden - Painting and drawing apps are very popular on iPhone and iPad. Despite the promise of full 3D, many people still feel more comfortable with traditional 2D painting and drawing. After all, everyone can paint, but making great looking 3D models is usually a job for trained professionals.

BlockArt aims to change all this. Learning from the success of real world Building Blocks and Lego, as well as applications like Minecraft, BlockArt is putting 3D modeling back where it belongs, in the hands of everybody.

As any 3-year old will demonstrate, there is no easier way to build something than to stack square boxes on top of each other. In the same way, BlockArt lets users quickly create amazing 3D models one block at a time by simply tapping on the screen.

Models in three dimensions have often suffered from an artificial and clinical look that only skilled 3D artists could overcome. Not any more! Thanks to proprietary lighting calculations constantly working in the background, models built with BlockArt look great from the first block onwards.

Users can turn, tilt, and zoom to see their creations from any angle they like. They can save high quality pictures of their models to the photo album or share them through email or Facebook. Pictures saved from BlockArt show advanced lighting and are free from the common artifact of jagged, unnatural edges.

Full versions of BlockArt and BlockArt HD are available for purchase in the App Store. BlockArt and BlockArt HD can also be downloaded as free versions with a limitation on the size of the models. This limitation can be removed with an in-app purchase.
