[prMac.com] Portland, Oregon - Many Tricks, makers of helpful apps, today released version 2.0 of Moom, the successor to their popular window zooming and moving utility. While Moom was only released three months ago, its success and requests from users for additional features drove the speedy release of Moom 2. Given the short turnaround, Moom 2 is a free upgrade for all purchasers of Moom 1.x, whether those users purchased directly from Many Tricks or via Apple's Mac App Store.
Moom 2 offers the same intuitive mouse and keyboard interfaces of its predecessor, but expands its powers with an entirely new Custom feature that helps users turn Moom into a tool that exactly meets their needs. The Custom feature allows users to create a practically-unlimited number of customized Moom actions. These actions can then be accessed via a drop-down menu in Moom's mouse interface, via Moom's menu bar icon, or via user-assigned keyboard shortcuts.
Each of these customized actions also includes a special menu icon that reflects the defined action. For example, if a user creates an action that moves a window to the left edge, and sizes it at 50% of the screen's width, then the icon will reflect the left edge position and 50% size. These icons help users make a quick visual connection with their desired customized action.
Users can also group related tasks together, and distinguish those groups via menu separators and titles. As an example of what can be built, see the screenshot in the links section of this message.
The custom controls feature is the big news in Moom 2, but there are a few other improvements as well:
* Custom actions can be used to re-size windows to exact pixel dimensions
* Instead of resizing to use all available space, users can specify an open number of pixels between re-sized windows (and optionally away from screen edges)
* The re-size grid can now have up to 12 cells, which allows easy grid-based sizing for half, third, and quarter-screen windows
* In the mouse interface, holding down the Option key switches all half-size options to quarter-size options
* For vim users, the H-J-K-L keys now mimic the arrow keys in keyboard mode
Pricing and Availability:
Moom 2's price remains the same as its predecessor, just $5.00 USD ($4.99 on the Mac App Store), and as noted above, this major upgrade is free to all current purchasers. If you'd like to review Moom, please contact me for either an App Store promo code or a license for our directly-downloadable version. (The only difference between the two programs is that the direct version includes in-app updates.)
