New Mobile App Keeps Kids Safe and Parents Sane

July 6, 2011 in Utilities

[prMac.com] Salt Lake City, Utah - Intelligent Design announced the release of aWareAbouts 1.1 for iPhone. aWareAbouts is a mobile app created to keep kids safe and parents sane. The app allows parents to know where their children are at all times without spying or being overly intrusive; it was designed to keep kids safe without violating their trust. "I wanted to create an app that gives parents peace of mind while allowing kids to have the freedom they crave," says Intelligent Design Creative Director, Dan Murray.

aWareAbouts is simple to use. A check-in time is scheduled into a child's phone. When this time comes, aWareAbouts activates a reminder for the child to check-in. The child then has the choice of either calling or sending a message via text or email with their specific location coordinates attached. The app also has an "emergency" button that a child can press, which sends out an emergency message to all of the app contacts containing location coordinates and auto dialing either 911 or a parents number. If a child is ever in trouble, aWareAbouts will greatly increase their chances of being unharmed.

aWareAbouts had a roundabout way of coming to be. Murray, an avid backcountry skier, was trying to use GPS mapping apps on his phone to transmit his location to a list of recipients via text and email. Ultimately, Murray found himself unsatisfied with the apps, because the emails did not originate from his personal email. Instead, they came from the apps and went straight to the recipients' SPAM box. This clearly wasn't the dependable lifeline Murray was hoping for, so he set out to make a better one.

Move forward a few weeks and Murray found himself discussing his new backcountry skiing app with a friend at a PTA meeting. The discussion went from backcountry apps to other uses for similar technology, but it wasn't until Murray's friend said, "I have a teenage daughter; I'd love to be able to keep track of her," that proverbial light bulb went off in Murray's head.

Intelligent Design has since developed aWareAbouts. "I am very pleased that aWareAbouts is available to parents," Murray says. "It's nice to see technology working to make our kids safer."
