PaintByHand 4.1 for iPad-Free Painting for Kids 2 to 7 and Other Artists
August 19, 2011 in Entertainment
[prMac.com] Cambridge, Massachusetts - Ontri has announced PaintByHand 4.1 for iPad, their free Entertainment app that provides artists with a variety of brushes and paint colors plus a virtual, spiral bound sketchbook. Designed for kids two through seven years old, the app has become popular with artists of all ages, who can use it to paint and color with their fingers or with a stylus. The app features an animated, flip-style sketchbook, five types of brushes, hundreds of colors, optional templates, and sharing via email, Facebook, and the PaintByHand online Gallery. Available as an in-app purchase are 21 different coloring book templates that users can color in using their fingers. Templates include sports, animals, princess, cars, trucks, and more.
* Neat flipbook-like user interface
* Hundreds of colors
* Change brush width
* Works with hand or stylus
* Share work by email, Facebook, or submit to the PainByHand Gallery
* Download coloring book templates (sports people, cars, trucks, animals, dancer, etc.)
* Made for iPad, iPhone version coming soon
PaintByHand operates only in portrait orientation. The white pages of the spiral-bound, artist's sketchbook fill three-quarters of the screen. To the right are Up and Down arrows, which activate either a forward or reverse page-peel transition, moving forward or backward in the sketchbook. The effect works perfectly, and young artists will be as entertained flipping through pages as painting.
Above the sketchbook are five paintbrush icons, offering five different thicknesses of brush. All the brushes display the paint color currently selected. To the left are scrolling sample colors, displayed as paint splatters: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet, White, and Black. Scrolling vertically shows the colors on an endless loop, while scrolling horizontally across any selected color slowly adds or subtracts white, resulting in hundreds of shades. A gold star icon opens the Coloring Shapes window, which displays 21 different templates, pages of a virtual coloring book. All templates are locked and require an in-app purchase to download into the app.
Expert artists will discover that the reverse arrow icon is an Undo button, and the sheet of paper icon Clears everything from the page. PaintByHand allows users to save images to the in-app library or export them from within the app by email. The app also includes connectivity with Facebook and Ontri's own online PaintByHand Gallery.
"Young children love painting on the iPad with PaintByHand," commented company founder Jon Finegold. "And they love displaying their work, flipping through page after page of their artwork."
* Compatible with iPad
* iOS 3.2 or later (iOS 4.3 tested)
* 4.6 MB
