[prMac.com] Silver Spring, Maryland - PicPocket Books has announced Pete & Pillar: The Big Rain 2.5 and Petunia Pepper's Picture Day 2.4.1 are now available as storybook apps for the iPad. The award-winning "Pete & Pillar: The Big Rain" teaches children the importance of friendship. Pete, a mighty diesel truck, and Pillar, a bulldozer, are best friends, even though everybody knows haulers don't talk to diggers. When a major thunderstorm threatens to flood the village, Pete and Pillar's friendship faces the ultimate test, and they have to find out if they can count on each other when it matters most.
"Petunia Pepper's Picture Day," helps children understand that outward appearance isn't everything. Every year, disaster strikes on Petunia Pepper's school picture day. Puffy hair, pumpkin-style smiles and pink eye help create pictures that only her family could love. This year, Petunia plans carefully for the perfect picture day, but a series of misadventures on the way to school lead to yet another picture day fiasco. When her photo is on the front page of the local newspaper in honor of her heroic rescue of a poodle, she finally has a picture everyone in her class loves.
Both storybook apps contain animated features and sound effects throughout the story such as rumbling trucks in "Pete & Pillar" and a barking poodle in "Petunia Pepper's Picture Day." Children can have the story read to them and follow along through audio-synchronized word highlighting.

Established in the spring of 2009, PicPocket Books was founded by the husband and wife team of Lynette and Manuel Mattke, who share a passion for children's literature and technological innovation. To download any of the PicPocket Books apps, please visit the iTunes App Store and search for 'PicPocket Books.' PicPocket Books offer parents and their kids an alternative to flashy, and sometimes violent, fast-paced video games. Their book apps have some simple animations and/or interactive hot spots to encourage exploration and engagement. Overall, they strive to remain quite faithful to the original books with their apps and want to be careful not to obscure the reading experience with too much interactivity. They champion books and reading aloud to kids, and see bookapps as supplements, not replacements, for print books and the valuable time parents can spend reading with their kids. If having kids' books available on mobile devices means more exposure to stories and enthusiasm for reading for kids, then that is a success! Copyright (C) 2011 PicPocket Books. All Rights Reserved.
