Material Tracking Through the Approval Process, Across Suppliers

in Business (F)

[] Denver, Colorado - Even as outsourcing and offshoring becomes more and more mainstream, an essential ingredient to the success of these endeavors is missing. In Deloitte's 2012 survey on Global Outsourcing and Insourcing, 23 countries and 22 industries that were surveyed clearly showed the importance of collaboration and the partnership relationship. When asked about the factors and components that were most critical, more than 50% said that the spirit of partnership between client and vendor was very important. shared in an article about Working with Offshore and Nearshore teams, that communication was tops. The IT community has been working with offshore teams for years and one of the things they've learned is that "Communication is, far and away, the most important aspect of working with offshore and nearshore".

Focusing in on the data that is shared between a hiring firm and the contract manufacturer or supplier, the incumbents have been slow to offer B2B connections to handle the communication required to track material quality and exchange specifications as they change over time. SAP and other vendors utilize portals to link a firm to it's suppliers, yet in the vast web of the supply chain, a portal is neither time or cost effective. To work effectively, the portal approach would require every company to have it's own portal, with every company in the supply chain authenticating to the hiring firm's portal to enter material and product quality information, in real time.

While traditional ERP and Quality Systems do a great job of managing internal operations, the Facebook sharing of data is not there. This is where software products like auditweaver come in. In the auditweaver system, a company can manage it's material specifications and testing, yet also share out the data to their supplier or hiring firm in the form of a circle. Each material or data set can be granularly shared to one or more groups who have a vested interest in that product or good. In this environment, there is no need for hundreds or thousands of portals, just one system that can open a window to the right data for the right people, regardless of one's company. Of course, there are connection rules and governance in place to ensure that connections are managed appropriately, but the concept, although simple, is quite new to the supply chain.

Audit Weaver, LLC. looks forward to expanding upon the One Supply Chain concept, with the goal of providing cost-effective tools to all companies in the hopes of improving product quality for all consumers. In the end, they are looking to make the sharing of material data across companies a win-win across the entire supply chain.
