[prMac.com] Smithfield, Virginia - CatHide is a new product for mobile development based on a modified version of the Cocos2d-x library. The software aims to solve the problem of needing to use several different development environments, and sometimes different art assets, to build software using Cocos2d-x. This goal is particularly beneficial to new developers who do not want to learn a whole new system for each platform.
It does this by creating a unified editing environment where developers can write their code once, then compile and deploy it to several different platforms. CatHide's custom build of Cocos2d-x allows for image bleed, so that letter boxing is no longer present on devices with aspect ratios different than 3:2.
CatHide also comes with its own simulator, for quickly testing your apps across multiple resolutions. The CatHide simulator can run in all of the most common mobile resolutions available today, so developers will no exactly how their product will look on a wide variety of devices without having to rely on platform-specific simulators or actual devices.
Imperial Penguin has made CatHide available for pre-order for a special pre-launch price of $29.99. Pre-orders come with access to alpha builds of the software so developers can begin acclimating themselves to the environment immediately. The official release date is scheduled for sometime in September.
The final release of the software in September will include support for building applications for deployment to six mobile application markets. Apple's Appstore, Google Play, Amazon's App Store, the Nook app market, the webOS App Catalog, and Blackberry's App World. Currently, only Blackberry Playbook support is included, although BB 10 support is planned.
More information on the software can be found on the CatHide website.
