[prMac.com] Melbourne, Australia - Universe Creation 101, an entertainment studio known for crafting playful, technology-driven stories, may have invented a new breed of storytelling, a concept that's receiving keen attention from creatives and financial backers worldwide. The project, titled AUTHENTIC IN ALL CAPS, brings high-production, audio-based narratives - stories akin to radio drama experiences - to the Internet in an entirely new way.
As online players visit special websites set in AUTHENTIC's fictional universe, an audio drama "layer" is activated, delivering additional site and story content through this exclusive aural channel. This content includes character dialogue, plot twists ... and even reveals secrets hiding in plain sight.
The app merges the rich imaginative imagery that radio drama affords, with the active exploration of the web, says Christy Dena, founder of Universe Creation 101. Dena is a longtime game designer and writer.
"Audio is a powerful element in any creative project, and we're drawing on it to explore characters, setting, navigation, and emotion on the web in a new way," Dena explains. "You don't just listen in AUTHENTIC; you look, and do. It's not a videogame, radio drama, or audio tour; but we're drawing on the techniques used in all of these to create a new story experience where audio and fictional websites are combined."
AUTHENTIC IN ALL CAPS has received high praise from veterans in the online storytelling community for its fun, humorous and innovative tech-driven approach. A prototype of the experience was a Finalist for "Best Writing in a Game" at the 2012 Freeplay Independent Games Festival Awards.
Universe Creation 101 recently launched a crowdfunding campaign for the project. It has received enthusiastic financial support from residents in 14 countries, including USA, UK, Canada, and Sweden.
Dena, the project's creator, is no stranger cutting-edge storytelling. She has contributed to such award-winning global alternate reality games as Nokia's "Conspiracy for Good", Cisco's "The Hunt", and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's "Bluebird AR".
Dena was also commissioned by the Australian Literature Board to co-write "The Writer's Guide to Making a Digital Living", and was invited to speak at the first TEDx Transmedia held in Switzerland.
Located in Melbourne, Australia, Universe Creation 101 was founded in 2009 by Christy Dena. Dena has worked on alternate reality games, transmedia extensions of feature films, theatre productions, and games. She recently launched a playful story experience for the iPhone at Australian's first pervasive gaming event: The Fresh Air Festival by Popup Players.
