Forager Diary - now available on the Apple App Store

in Lifestyle (F)

[] Alameda, California - It's no secret that foraging is in right now. Food and Wine Magazine recently declared foraging the "next big locavore fixation," which seems an appropriate designation given the recent trends for Michelin star restaurants to employ full-time foragers and eco-conscious urbanites to comb the streets for wild food as a part of the urban foraging movement. Available today, Forager Diary is the ultimate tool to support this burgeoning pastime for the growing number of iPhone-wielding gatherers of wild food.

Forager Diary is your personal journal of your finds of wild edibles. Each entry, or 'sighting', contains the name of the wild edible in question, its precise location, the date it was found, field notes, and photos, all presented in a beautiful interface. Forager Diary is a tool, so it's meant to be carried out on the trail just as a basket or pocket knife would. As soon you spot an interesting wild edible, you pull out your iPhone, open up the app, and tap the ' ' button to start creating a new sighting at your current location. You then choose the name of the edible from a list of common wild plant, fungi, and seashore edibles, or add it yourself if you don't see it listed. To complete your sighting, you add photos and field notes for future reference. You also have the option of adding sightings retroactively by choosing the date the edible was seen and specifying its location on a map. Plus, Forager Diary works offline, so you can add sightings with accurate location information no matter how deep in the woods you venture, as long as you have a GPS signal.

After the foray, Forager Diary allows you to reference and revisit your sightings by displaying them in two ways: organized by date in a list and by location on a big, beautiful map. And because Forager Diary stores the precise location of each sighting, you can return to the locations of your most precious finds at a later date by tapping 'Get Directions'.

Forager Diary is available for $2.99 in the US and is priced accordingly in other regions. The app is available worldwide on the Apple App Store for devices with iOS 6.0 and beyond. Please visit or follow @ForagerDiary on Twitter for more information.
