GovTribe Releases App Aiming to Revolutionize Federal Contracting

in Business (F)

[] Arlington, Virginia - GovTribe, a technology firm specializing in government data released version 2.0 of its initial product - hord. The iPhone app has been updated to include contract data from 130 federal agencies and to allow users to subscribe to the real time activity of current solicitations, contracting officers, or competitors. First available on the Apple App Store on January 9, 2012, the release of hord 2.0 follows months of testing with a limited data set.

In building hord, Jay Hariani, Nate Nash, and Marc Vogtman set out to create a product that simplified the process of competing in the world of government contracting. By providing access to the real time activity of agencies, offices, people, vendors, projects, and categories, users are able to quickly inform their business development decisions.

Currently in use by employees at many of the top providers of goods and services to the federal government, hord is revolutionizing the way government contractors pursue and develop business. GovTribe combines open government data with proprietary technology to deliver an experience within hord that echoes a social network. By adding a person, vendor, agency, or project to his "hord," a user receives ongoing updates on its activity.

"I use it constantly in my work to track USAID proposals and updates as well as key people and missions associated with the opportunities," said Rodrigo Ortiz, a specialist leader with Deloitte Consulting. "It's amazing to be able to do this in real time on an iPhone."

In addition to providing real time activity feeds, hord exposes relationships between various entities within the government contracting space. Users leverage this capability to find colleagues of contracting officers, individuals staffed to a particular office, or projects recently awarded to a competitor. Users also discover important information through "Trends", a real time view of what the larger community is most heavily tracking.

"Our goal with hord is to provide an affordable and easy way to understand what is going on in the world of government contracting," said GovTribe CEO Nate Nash. "There is a ton of data out there, but accessing the part you care about is cumbersome, expensive, and antiquated. The fact that most information about government procurements is delivered via email or word of mouth, often 24-48 hours after it occurred, is patently absurd. We give it to our customers as soon as it happens, directly to their mobile device, and in the context of their market."
