[prMac.com] Birmingham, Alabama - Software Smoothie, the developers who created Felt Board app for the iPad, announce today that their customizable cause and effect app for children, iBaby Buttons, has received a new look and a new name. It is now called Photo Buttons, a name that better describes the app's functionality and is more appealing to older children.
Originally designed as a first app for young children, Photo Buttons was created for the developer's daughter, who was a toddler when the app was released. The app allows little ones to tap anywhere on the screen to create a button, which can then be tapped again to reveal an image and accompanying sound before it is "popped" like a bubble. Children quickly and easily learn to create and "pop" buttons and drag them around the screen. The buttons can be customized by using personal photographs and sound recordings.
David Douglas, developer and co-founder of Software Smoothie, was inspired by his youngest daughter's fascination with the iPad and created the app as a way to encourage his daughter to repeat new words and phrases. Other parents and teachers of children with special needs have used Photo Buttons to reinforce speech and dexterity skills, as well. Special Apps, Special Kids describes the app as a useful app for children with special needs: "This is a wonderful app - it is easy to set up, easy to use! It is great for children with special needs, who are working on cause and effect relationships - when I do X, Y happens. The use of familiar pictures and sounds makes this so relevant."
Since the app has been released, it has been discovered that older children often enjoy the app as much as their younger siblings it was originally designed for:
"My stepdaughter loved taking pictures of the family over Thanksgiving and getting people's voices for the customized buttons on the app," writes one user in an iTunes review. "It kept her entertained for hours and she loves looking at the pictures and hearing the voices months later."
"I thought my youngest child would be too old to enjoy this, but I was wrong," writes another parent in iTunes, "This is an interesting app that my 5 year old has really latched on to. She loves playing with it!"
Photo Buttons is the same customizable cause and effect app, but with a new, more relevant name, and an updated look and user interface for iOS 7.
