Karelia Announces Black Friday Sale - Suggests Donations to Charities

in Promotions (E)

[prMac.com] Alameda, California - Karelia Software today announced a special "Black Friday" sale on licenses to its award-winning website builder, Sandvox. On Friday, November 29, 2009, licenses to Sandvox will be discounted by fifty percent when a special coupon code is entered on the online store. As part of the promotion, Karelia is asking its customers to make a charitable donation to the organization of their choice using some of the money they have saved via the Black Friday sales.

"I have always found it ironic and a bit disturbing that the day after a holiday centered around family, friends, reflection, and thankfulness, is a day of shopping frenzy," said Dan Wood, Karelia president. "I came up with the idea of making Black Friday into something a bit more meaningful. Shopping is just fine, but I thought this might be a way to help out others who don't have as much to be thankful for as we do."

The announcement of this sale on the Karelia Blog contains a number of suggested charities, but emphasizes that it's up to the purchaser where they donate and how much.

The coupon code, "make a donation", will result in a fifty percent discount off the purchase price. (The code is only valid on Friday, November 27, 2009.) Depending on the license type, the resulting savings range from $28 to $68, which the company suggests be applied toward a charitable donation.

A single-user license to Sandvox, Pro Edition, can also be obtained for free, through the end of November, with purchase of one year's worth of web hosting from either A2 Hosting or Server Logistics as a new customer, via the links on the Karelia Hosting Comparison Chart web page.

A Universal Binary for PowerPC and Intel architectures, Sandvox 1.6.5 requires Mac OS X "Tiger" version 10.4.11, or "Leopard" version 10.5, or "Snow Leopard" version 10.6, and is available in English, French, Danish, German, Brazilian Portuguese, and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese. A single-user license to Sandvox costs $57 (USD); a single-user license for the Pro edition (enabling raw HTML editing plus additional Google integration) costs $97 (USD). Household licenses and site licenses are also available.

More information about Sandvox is available at Karelia's website (created with Sandvox, of course). Review copies for traditional and online media are available. Karelia Software is the California-based company that originally brought you Watson, the ground-breaking Macintosh Web utility, winner of the MacWorld "Eddy" and the Apple Design Award for "Most Innovative Application." Karelia is headed by Dan Wood and Terrence Talbot. We joined forces to create Sandvox when we realized that even for the technically inclined, it was just too painful to get words and pictures on the Web.
