[prMac.com] Seattle, Washington - Flip Flop Games today is pleased to introduce Word Colors 1.0 for iOS, their new crossword Game that features innovative, colored letter tiles that allow players to achieve very high scores. For example, forming a word with 3 consecutive tiles of the same color triples the scoring for those tiles, and so on. Other features include: many different bonus squares on the board, automatic scoring, play against a friend or random opponent, friends lists, game statistics, chat and push notifications, personal profiles, and an online Word Colors Wall to meet players and join a new game. After free registration on the Word Colors website, all a player's games and statistics are saved, allowing players to achieve exact rankings.
Crossword games have a large, loyal following, and Word Colors contains a host of clever and creative new features that are likely to make it a favorite amongst crossworders. Played on a zoomable, 15 x 15 board, the rules are no different than most other such games. What is different is that all the letter tiles are one of four colors: red, green, blue, or orange. A letter make come in any color; there may be E's in all four colors played on the gameboard. Playing words with a series of matching colored letters multiplies the score. In a word with three green tiles in a row, the total point value of those three tiles is multiplied by three. If a word contains four consecutive blue tiles, the score of those four tiles is multiplied by four.
The color of the tile can change when placed on special squares on the board. A Super Color square, marked SC, changes all the tiles played to any selected color. A Wild Color square, marked WC, changes the single tile played on that square to any selected color. The last bonus square is the Plus square, marked 1, 2, 3, or 4. The number value of a tile placed on a Plus square increases by the amount shown.
The Word Colors website automatically records, analyzes, and compiles statistics based on every game played. The statistics are on view in a public database, so players can look up their own stats or those of another player. Players can also view profiles and player statistics during gameplay by clicking on the player's name at the top of the board:
Statistics Recorded for Every Game:
* Wins - a player's total number of wins
* Losses - a player's total number of losses
* Draws - a player's total number of draws or ties
* Resigns - the total number of times a player has resigned
* Declines - the total number of times a player has declined to play a game
* Best Game Score - a player's highest score of all games played
* Average Game Score - a player's average game score for all games played
* Average Word Score - a player's average word score for all games played
* Best Turn Score - a player's highest score achieved in a single turn over all games
* Average Turn Score - a player's average score achieved per turn over all games
Along with the computing power necessary for keeping all statistics up to date, Flip Flop Games also keeps track of the players with whom the gamer most often plays. A friends list is automatically generated for every player. After having had a game with someone, they are added to the player's friends list. From a player's friends list they can create games, view statistics, chat, view profile info, etc. And, if desired, friends can be deleted.
Crossworders can create a game with their friends or play with a random opponent. It is quite easy to create a game by entering a friend's username or their email address, or they may be selected from the user's friends list, or live games can be played with someone present in the Pass and Play mode. At the start of each game, the player simply touches one of five buttons to Create a New Game: User Name, Friends List, Pass and Play Game, Email Address, or Random Opponent (Random Opponent play attempts to match players based on their skill levels and statistics).
Word Colors has been designed as a social game from the ground up. Friends can chat both in and out of the game. Chat is not restricted to individual games like other crossword games. Players receive push notifications when it is their turn or when a game is created or finished. All players are able to upload a photo, provide a public status message, and enter other profile information. Public profiles include a player's overall game statistics as well. Finally, the online Word Colors Wall is a place where players can connect with other players who are looking for games or for general discussion. Players can view other player's profiles from The Wall, create new games, or chat.
