[prMac.com] London, United Kingdom - Anyone who had used an iPad and an iPhone knows that things just feel better on the larger screen of the iPad. With this in mind Honey Tribe Studios have now released their eco-game Honey Tribe: Colony Collapse HD on iPad.
The beautiful hand drawn artwork has never looked better and the blend of fact and fiction has never felt more fun. Honey Tribe: Colony Collapse uses enjoyable and simple gameplay mechanics to progress a story which informs the player about real world events.
The original iPhone release was well received by the gaming press. The elements that stood out most to them were the hand drawn graphics, the dynamic sound design and the combination of gameplay and factual content.
"It's rare to find a game with such a strong ecological message as Honey Tribe: Colony Collapse...Honey Tribe is not only a remarkably endearing little game, but it's also incredibly addictive." Silver Award 8/10 - Pocket Gamer
"If you're a nature lover, or simply a lover of well-executed games, Honey Tribe: Colony Collapse is worth checking out. Download it today." 4.5/5 -App Advice
"The endearing hand drawn nature of the graphics is a particular shining light to the whole thing making it a touch above the rest in the endless running genre." 4/5 -148 Apps
"But the brilliance of this game is that it raises awareness of a real-world problem...This is a good game that's also doing some good." 4/5 - TouchReviews
The player is free to experience the app as just a cute, casual game in the endless mode. Or they can play through the story mode where they can meet likeable characters and unlock in-game achievements which will explain some facts about the importance of bees to human societies.
Colony Collapse Disorder is a real world phenomenon and is killing honey bees worldwide. Through the course of the story mode players can learn about some of the factors which are believed to contribute to the problem. There are also additional web links for each category so anyone who becomes interested in bee life can find out more.
When developing Honey Tribe: Colony Collapse the developers, Shaz Yousaf and Guy Jones, asked the question 'Can games be more than entertainment?' If the answer is yes then they concluded the best way to do this is to allow the player to choose to explore any factual content or to ignore it completely. It can' be forced on the player but be something enjoyable that feels like a natural part of the game.
One example of this in the game is the dandelion seeds. They float by (sometimes quite fast!) in the story mode and if enough are collected then the player is rewarded with the dandelion 'badge' on the hive screen. This can then be pressed to unlock a short fact and also has a web link to additional content. So the player is rewarded for in-game skill with factual information that ties in to the graphical and story elements of the level.
As more families are using iPads and tablet devices daily instead of desktops and laptops Honey Tribe Studios hope that Honey Tribe: Colony Collapse can provide both an enjoyable, entertaining experience but also stimulate people into learning something that may be new to them.
