June 13, 2012 in iOS Development (E)
[prMac.com] Portland, Oregon - Avatron(R) Software has announced the launch of The App Group(TM), a new company focused on custom app development services for iOS and Android platforms. The new company will leverage Avatron's strong design, production, and delivery expertise as reflected in its popular flagship Air Display and Air Sharing apps, while freeing Avatron to focus on the development of additional hit apps.
Housed near Avatron's Portland headquarters, The App Group fills a gap in the area's custom development landscape following Walmart's and eBay's recent acquisitions of Small Society and Critical Path Software, respectively. The new company will also build upon Avatron's prior custom work that has ranged from private novelty projects to enterprise-level apps for institutional customers.
The App Group's senior company management includes CEO Lauren Wallace, attorney and former Apple and Microsoft corporate development manager, and Dave Howell, Avatron CEO and former engineering manager in Apple's apps engineering division.
"The demand for mobile apps on both the iOS and Android platforms has been growing like crazy," Howell said. "All over the world, corporations in all sectors are seeking developers to build mobile apps that meet their business needs, from internal corporate functions and creative tools to customer interaction and e-commerce."
"Combined with recent sector mergers and acquisitions, we believe the time is ripe for a new company like The App Group to fill the resulting void while seizing upon this phenomenal market opportunity," he said.
Avatron's Air Display app, available for Mac OS X and Android, affords users more screen space and a larger workspace to spread out, wirelessly connecting laptops, notebooks and desktops to tablets for optimal function and comfort. Its Air Sharing file-sharing app for Apple iOS transforms the iPhone and iPad into external drives, facilitating document viewing and moving on the go.
"Companies, recognizing the power and flexibility of more general purpose apps like Air Display and Air Sharing, have regularly approached Avatron about custom app development," Lauren Wallace said. "Market forces, the changing custom app landscape and growing demand make this the right time for the company to form a sister company to address this opportunity. We are excited about The App Group's growth prospects and look forward to responding to this growing demand while proactively identifying new business opportunities, particularly in the enterprise and business-to-business sectors."
The App Group's arrival on the Portland development scene was welcomed by Angela Jackson, Managing Director of the Portland Seed Fund, who noted that The App Group "fills a critical need for emerging and growing companies that need a technically savvy, design-oriented developer to bring their mobile strategy to life. And Lauren and Dave, with their combined backgrounds in business development and mobile design and delivery, are the dream team to deliver on this opportunity."
