[prMac.com] Phoenix, Arizona - Dawn to Dusk Software today is pleased to announce QRecall 1.2 for OS X, a major update to their advanced backup and archiving software for Mac. Superior to simple backup apps, QRecall uses sophisticated, data de-duplication algorithms to intelligently backup up only the data that has actually changed, potentially saving gigabytes of backup disk space. Unlike Apple's Time Machine, which has no de-duplication capabilities, QRecall provides verifiable storage of multiple files in secure, compressed archive files.
QRecall is among the most advanced block-level, de-duplicating backup solutions available. The application makes it possible to capture hundreds of incremental versions of items like virtual machines, disk images, and multimedia projects using the same amount of disk space that a single version would occupy using traditional backup software. Users can now retain incremental versions for years, instead of weeks. Plus, they can save money by saving more data on less hard drive space.
* Advanced backup and archiving solution
* Unrivaled combination of ease-of-use, flexibility, efficiency, and security
* User configurable actions, commands, schedules, etc.
* Built-in Capture Assistant takes the user step-by-step through the initial setup
* Automatic backups and micro-backups
* Graphical layers display changes to an archive over time
* Every capture or backup creates a new layer
* Activity Monitor Window displays the progress of running action, recall, and verify commands
* Status Window displays the health, status, and available space of the archive
* Log Window maintains a complete history of all QRecall activities
* Optional Capture to QRecall Archive command from the Finder menu
* Optional menu bar icon for monitor and status windows
* Auto-repair of the archive before any command or action begins
The QRecall 1.2 update contains more than one hundred new features and improvements, providing an unrivaled combination of ease-of-use, flexibility, efficiency, and security. Users can effortlessly browse their backed up items just as they would in the Finder, by icon or list. Animated time lines show the history of each item. Users can even fly through a 3D model of their captured data, view deleted items, and search millions of filenames with ease.
Extremely flexible, users can select exactly which items are backed up and when. QRecall actions can be scheduled to run at specified times, on specified days, at user-selectable intervals, in response to a particular event, e.g., connecting an external drive, or actions can be run manually. In addition, actions can be disallowed from running at certain times of the day, for more than a user-selectable maximum amount of time, or actions may be set to stop when users log in or out. Mac owners now have complete control over the frequency of backups, how long data is kept, and the granularity of changes that are preserved over time.
Clearly, the most important function of QRecall is to ensure the integrity of all backed up and archived files. All backed up data is protected with checksums and security markers to ensure that no data has been overwritten, damaged, or corrupted, a feature missing from most other backup software. And the error detection algorithms, built into the QRecall archive format, are specifically engineered to enable recovery from data corruption and partial media failures.
Providing reassurance and peace of mind, QRecall displays a real-time, easy-to-read indicator of the health of the user's backup. A floating status window and Growl notifications keep users informed of all actions and any issues. A detailed, hierarchical, log window records every detail of QRecall's activities. The ideal solution for any Mac user requiring professional, backup and archiving of their data, QRecall is an easy and inexpensive method of preventing data loss and preserving incremental backups.
"QRecall is obsessed with the integrity of your data," commented James Bucanek of Dawn to Dusk Software. "Was any data altered during transmission? Has even a single byte of your backup data been overwritten, modified, corrupted, or lost? Is all of your data readable and ready to restore? QRecall asks and answers these questions constantly. Can your current backup program answer even one?"
* Requires OS X 10.5.8 or later
* OS X 10.6 or later recommended
* Compatible with Lion (OS X 10.7)
* 24.4 MB
