[prMac.com] London, United Kingdom - With the US election just a week away this amusing take on the electoral candidates is a welcome tonic. A light hearted poke at the candidates this mobile application uses image recognition technology to play videos over US dollar bills.
There are a selection of videos, images and slogans that play on different value bills, showing different content on each side. The technology works by identifying pre-set image markers, in this instance dollar bills, which then are replaced themselves by other content. You can share images of this effect by sharing on social media.
There are several other uses of this type of augmented reality technology, this demonstrates that almost anything can be used as a marker.
Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer.
As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one's current perception of reality. With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable. Artificial information about the environment and its objects can be overlaid on the real world.
The application has been built by a UK based digital production agency putitout, who build all types of web, mobile and social applications. You can see more on the website or download the app from App Store.
