[prMac.com] Battle Creek, Michigan - Tracy Falbe author of two fantasy series The Rys Chronicles and Rys Rising knows readers from all over the world find her ebooks through Apple's iBookstore inside iTunes. She sees the sales reports with downloads coming from the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and France among others.
Throughout 2013 Apple has distinguished itself by actually giving some merchandising love to self published indie authors. Its Breakout Books feature showcases popular self published titles so that more people browsing the iBookstore can discover emerging authors. Usually merchandising efforts in online stores are reserved for best sellers from major publishers.
Although Falbe has not been showcased herself, she appreciates Apple's willingness to experiment with self published titles.
"Usually if you go to any online book retailer you will see all the same titles being pushed on the home and category pages. It's like only the football team and cheerleaders get to be seen by shoppers. I appreciate that Apple has actually done a little promotion for indie authors," Falbe said.
Serving over 50 countries, the iBookstore aids Falbe in gaining worldwide exposure for her fiction and nonfiction. Like her web store Brave Luck Books, the iBookstore reaches many countries not served by Amazon's Kindle store or Barnes & Noble's Nook store.
"Extending the availability and discoverability of ebooks to a worldwide market is important to my career," Falbe said. She values the consistent if modest sales she gets every quarter at the iBookstore. Positioning her content in a place easily accessible to iPhone and iPad users interested in digital fiction is also important to her marketing efforts.
Marketing is a struggle for all authors due to the massive selection of books available at any given moment. The low price points on ebooks also constrain marketing budgets, especially for indie authors.
Despite the challenges, Falbe has found increasing success in recent years since ebooks have gained a larger audience and major retailers began allowing indie authors to sell at their web stores.
