[prMac.com] Espoo, Finland - Independent developer Esa Helttula has released Long Division 1.45 an update of the educational math app for iPhone and iPod touch. Parents and educators find the app very useful because it allows children to master the difficult long division method in an intuitive and fun way.
Endorsed by Educators:
Educational app review (iear.org) rated the Long Division app AAA, the highest rating. Purpose, program functionality and overall educational value were all rated A. From the review: "My third graders loved learning with this app! It has infinite enriching and differentiating possibilities".
The Long Division Method Step by Step:
Many children and adults have problems with the long division method, which is the standard method for dividing numbers. The Long Division app allows the user to solve long division problems step by step and animates all the steps. In the steps the user will divide, multiply or subtract. The correct answer will always fly to the right place. This way of learning has been proven to be helpful.
The Interface Supports Learning:
If the user presses the wrong button the answer will appear above the keyboard but it will not move. "Because no wrong entries are allowed the app provides a passive form of positive reinforcement and your child will likely improve in both confidence and competence with respect to the procedure", said assistant professor of mathematics education Tim Pelton in his review of Column Subtraction, a sister app of Long Division 1.45 that uses the same kind of input method. Solving long division problems is also excellent subtraction and times tables practice. The app is easy to use and it has an intuitive interface with customizable colors and other settings.
Version 1.45 of the app has the following new features:
* The app can now add zeros to the dividend, when needed
* Support for iOS4.
Other features of Long Division 1.45:
* The dividend can have up to 5 digits
* The dividend can have decimals
* The divisor can have 1 or 2 digits
* The user can input numbers to divide
* The current operation for each step can be hidden
* The operands for the current operation can be highlighted
* There are 3 different themes: black, gray and gold
* The speed of the animations can be set
* Support for Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Finnish etc.
Long Division is part of a popular series of a dozen educational math apps for iPhone. Other mathematics apps in the series include Fraction Math, Column Addition, Lattice Multiplication, Long Multiplication, Column Subtraction and 10 other math apps. For Germany, Spain, Portugal and other countries that use a different notation for long division there is the "Division" app in English, German, Spanish and Portuguese. Support for additional languages and notations will be added based on user demand.
