Mix, create and remember faces with FaceMix for iPhone

in Entertainment (F)

[prMac.com] Amsterdam, Netherlands - DEVART has released FaceMix 2.01 for iPhone and iPod touch. One often wonders about one's face and the features that make you look like you. Is it in the eyes? The smile? The shape of the chin? It's a small step to the connected question "what if I had the nose of Y, would that make a big difference for my appearance?" And of course, there are always some parts of your face you wouldn't mind replacing. At least temporary.

FaceMix let's you try this out in an entertaining way (no plastic surgery needed). The app runs on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. You can create the faces you want to mix by choosing pictures from the photo library or taking new pictures. FaceMix then easily let's you resize and reposition them, ready to be mixed.

You can select up to six faces whose features you want to mix with each other. The selected faces are split into six features: eyes, nose, eyebrows, mouth, chin and hair. While mixing you can make your dreams or nightmares come true by changing a pair of eyes. You can also surprise yourself and choose to shuffle the faces, which gives very funny and weird results. Really challenging is to try to reconstruct one of the faces you selected to mix. The strange thing is that often you know the face you are constructing is not as you remember it but it's really difficult to point out which feature is responsible for this.

The blending works extremely well because it's smooths all the edges over a larger area making the seams invisible. Thus the mixing even works pretty well for photographs made under different lightning conditions, that differ in tone or contain faces with different skin colors.

What I really liked that the the app also has a sharing and saving option so once I've discovered or made an amazing new face it's not lost. Another option in FaceMix is the play mode. In this mode FaceMix randomly shuffles face features that are shown for about six seconds, after which you have to rebuild these images. This is really fun to do in those ten minutes of spare time in between things. Having a whole brain region dedicated to recognizing faces it comes as no surprise that an app like FaceMix that let's you mix and play with faces has a lot of appeal. A gadget like this is fun and challenging for all ages!
