Michael Filippone Releases PEMDAS 2.0 Calculator Widget for Mac OS X

in Mac OSX (E)

[prMac.com] Michael Filippone today is pleased to announce the release of PEMDAS 2.0, a free scientific calculator widget for Mac OS X. The first major update to PEMDAS 1.1, which won the 2007 Apple Design Award for Best Dashboard Widget, Runner-Up, the latest version offers significant refinements and expanded features. Its elegant interface reinforces the developer's emphasis on usability and over mere computational power. With standard and equation history modes, PEMDAS can calculate equations, store variables, and supports many standard functions.

Version 2.0 features a new, sleeker look in keypad and equation history view, and adds a third, mini-view, which reduces the view to just equation and answer. The equation history view has been redesigned, and now displays equations with their results directly below, as well as a list of all variables in the current session. Nearly the entire interface has been re-written in response to user feedback, improving on its original, award-winning design. Every aspect of its GUI, keypad layout, use of color, typography, display and entry fields, and keyboard shortcuts contribute to the usability of PEMDAS.

PEMDAS, which is pronounced like "them/mass", is an acronym for the order in which mathematical operations are executed: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction. The text/numeric input and display makes the naming and storage of variables simple and convenient. The display also offers decimal, binary, hexadecimal or octal base modes. Significant Figure and Decimal Place formatting is user adjustable, and thousands separators can be turned on or off. The calculator supports trigonometric, hyperbolic, and exponential/logarithmic functions, parentheses, percentages, exponents, variables, and it lists all equations in the current session for easy access to variables and previously calculated results.

* Advanced, scientific calculator in compact, convenient Dashboard widget
* Keyboard input of user-assigned variables
* Color-coded keypad/control panel
* Calculates trigonemetric functions using degrees or radians
* Calculates exponential/logarithmic and hyperbolic functions
* Answer key automatically enters result of previous calculation
* Works in decimal, binary, octal, and hexadecimal base number systems
* Floating point, percentage, scientific or engineering number display formats
* Equation history mode shows all equations and associated results
* Ideal, practical tool for many basic scientific and engineering problems
* Available free of charge for Mac OS X
* Also available as a dedicated application for iOS and Mac OS X

"The most important feature of PEMDAS Widget is that it lets you quickly and easily perform calculations with equations and variables," said Michael Filippone, developer of PEMDAS. "Many other calculators that can work with equations have steep learning curves and/or complicated interfaces, and many are desktop apps that you don't always have open."

System Requirements:
* Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later
* 0.9 MB

Pricing and Availability:
PEMDAS 2.0 Dashboard Widget is free, and available now for download. PEMDAS is also available as an app for iOS.
