Canada Type Releases the Roma Suite by Thomas Lincoln
October 21, 2011 in Software
[prMac.com] Toronto, Canada - Canada Type announcend today the release of the Roma suite of fonts, by Springfield, Oregon artist and award-winning designer Thomas Lincoln. The new Roma suite is Lincoln's envisioning of a sans serif typeface based on the Trajan column letterforms, a five-decades-long subject of fascination and research for him. The Roma suite is now available through Canada Type and its popular distributors.
Lincoln's Roma Suite has been a labor of love more than two years in the making. A sans serif version of the Trajan Roman forms has always seemed to him like an unclimbed mountain: a challenge, born out of respect, that must be taken on - in this case simply because it wasn't there.
Canada Type is proud to add a typeface so versatile to its library. Very attractive in large settings, works very well in immersive text, and loaded with options for tasteful bicolor and tricolor treatments, Roma is a first in many ways. It is a great honor for Canada Type to have produced the work of Thomas Lincoln, a rare breed of designer with a relentless vision and unwavering passion for everything Trajan.
Following his studies at Portland's Museum Art School and Reed College, as well as New York's School of Visual Arts, Thomas Lincoln has had a long and illustrious career that spanned both coasts of the US. He worked with and studied under ad pioneers and corporate design experts such as Herb Lubalin and Milton Glaser. His typeface Lincoln Gothic was a winner in VGC's 1965 National Typeface Competition. He also won a Gold Medal, Best of Show, from the Boston Art Director's Club in 1972, and in 1973 was given an Award of Merit from Typomundos Internationale in Paris, France. Since those early days he has received many awards and his work appeared in several books on corporate design.
