[prMac.com] New York, New York - Ingengo today is pleased to introduce KIDiPLAY Match 1.0 for iOS, their new educational app that stands out from numerous other memory games by letting kids develop and sharpen their short term visual and auditory memory, as well as categorical reasoning skills through matching pictures, sounds, and pictures of things that go together. Featuring three difficulty levels for each of the three games, professional graphics and animation, and classical music themes heard in the background during gameplay, KIDiPLAY Match packs three times the fun and challenge of typical memory card match games.
Variously called Memory, Concentration, Pelmanism, or Pairs, card matching games for solitaire or group play have delighted gamers for centuries and are widely used as an educational tool for children with autism. The first game lets kids sharpen their short memory visual skills by matching pictures of objects. There are a total of 42 different pictures in three categories: food, transportation, and animals. At the start of each game, all the cards are turned face down. Selecting one flips it over, and selecting another flips that card over. If it is a match, the two cards merge in the center of the screen into one large picture and a bugle charge is played. If the second card is not a match, both cards are quickly turned back over so they are again face down. Depending on the level selected (Easy, Medium, or Hard), the number of cards laid out randomly in a rectangular array will be 12, 16, or 20.
Beyond the traditional matching of pictures, KIDiPLAY Match challenges kids' auditory memory skills to identify and remember short sounds. When the player touches the first card, it flips over to reveal an audio speaker and the card's secret sound is heard. On selecting a second card, it flips over and shows an identical picture, but the sound may be different. There are a total of 36 different sounds in three categories: human, transportation, and animal sounds. For many kids matching sounds will be more difficult than matching pictures, because their auditory discrimination, recognition, and past experience is not as well developed as their comparable visual functions.
Most importantly, the app offers an opportunity to match things that go together. This unusually challenging game aims to develop early critical thinking and categorical reasoning skills. Here, kids match a hammer with a nail, a box of eggs with two eggs cooking in a pan, and a honeycomb with a bee. This game will be the most puzzling of all for most young kids, because it requires holding both images and ideas in short term memory, and often players will not immediately make the connection between two cards turned over during different rounds of the game. Kids and parents will both find that KIDiPLAY Match captures their full attention, stretches the limits of their ordinary thinking, and offers them palpable positive reinforcement, especially when finally making a match after several tries.
