JackApps Claims Niche in Offbeat Mobile Gaming With Memory Hold'em

May 15, 2012 in Games

[prMac.com] India - JackApps Studios, the Indie app developer, has launched Memory Hold'em for iOS, blending Poker and Memory games in a single app to carve a niche in the world of offbeat mobile gaming.

Memory Hold'em, JackApps' debut app, distills the head-scratching challenge of memory games, the hair-raising suspense of poker, and the laid-back connection of social gaming. 10 winning hand combinations, 20 cards, and an entire world of real-life opponents make for a different experience every time you play.

"We decided to put an unusual twist on Texas Hold'em to give it a broader appeal by combining it with memory games, and give the new hybrid a social gaming aspect," said JackApps co-founder and chief designer. "During brainstorming sessions, we encourage our team to let fly with wild, eccentric ideas. Memory Hold'em makes for a great flagship app for JackApps because testing shows it appeals to a broader audience than any single one of its components. But, in the end, we chose to go with it just because it's great fun."

Game Play:
You get two cards, face-up. The other 18 cards are hidden ... at the start. Then they flip over briefly and players struggle to memorize. The tile cards are hidden again and players must probe their memories to form Texas Hold'em hands. Players can choose from four boosters to gain extra time, keep more cards visible, highlight card positions or see all cards again for a few seconds. Invite friends to play against you, face a random real-life opponent, or practice alone to prepare to meet'em and beat'em in social gaming.

Can the poker shark from Facebook overcome your dead-eye powers of recollection? Will the calculations of the math genius go all fuzzy under the pressure of the clock? Will the laid-back attitude of the casual gamer become an advantage by dodging the memory-clouding stress?

Device Requirements:
* iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad
* Requires iOS 5.0 or later
* 36.7 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Memory Hold'em: Heads Up 1.0 is Free and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category. Memory Hold'em Pro: Heads Up 1.0 is $0.99.

JackApps Studios, founded in 2011, takes an unconventional approach to mobile gaming. JackApps operates on the zany side of the gaming spectrum. The studio was originally conceived by a health professional, an investment banker and a high-power consultant as an outlet for the inner goof-offs that never left them since their early gaming days on Xbox and PlayStation.
