Nosy Crow Release Text Highlighting Feature Across Apps List

June 6, 2012 in Books

[prMac.com] London, United Kingdom - Independent children's book and app publisher Nosy Crow will release updated versions of their award-winning storybook apps for children that include word-tracking technology to create highlighted read-along texts: the words turn from black to red in time with the fully-dramatized audio reading. The multi-awarding winning 3D Fairytale apps The Three Little Pigs and Cinderella, and highly acclaimed Bizzy Bear apps, Bizzy Bear on the Farm and the upcoming Bizzy Bear Builds a House, will all carry the new feature.

The feature has been designed and implemented to enhance an understanding of the text for young readers and to convey a relationship between the spoken and written word for pre-literate users of the apps. App updates will be made available on iTunes from Monday, June 11, and Bizzy Bear Builds a House will be released on Wednesday, June 20.

Kate Wilson, Nosy Crow's Managing Director, said: "We see reading book apps as part of a child's education in literacy and literature. We think that, for the youngest child who does not yet have the ability to decode text, the highlighting of the text as the audio is read emphasizes the connection between text and meaning, while for the older children, the highlighting of the words may help to provide a more direct scaffold to their existing ability to decode."

Tom Bonnick, Nosy Crow's Digital Project and Marketing Manager, said: "This addition to our apps exemplifies Nosy Crow's ethos: to create high quality, accessible, interactive book apps that take advantage of all of the technology available and puts reading for pleasure at the centre of the story."

Nosy Crow's apps have won a number of awards, from professional, parenting, and media bodies including FutureBook (September 2011, FutureBook Awards, Best Children's App, Cinderella), iLounge (November 2011, iLounge Awards, iPad Kid's App of the Year, Cinderella), Digital Book World (January 2012, Publishing Innovation Awards, Best Juvenile App, Cinderella), KAPi (January 2012, KAPi Awards, Children's App, Cinderella) and Junior Magazine (May 2012, Junior Design Awards, Best Story App).

Nosy Crow is a London-based children's book and app publisher founded in 2010 by veterans of the children's publishing industry working who brought on board experienced electronic games developers. It published 23 books/ebooks and three apps in 2011, and will publish 36 books/ebooks and nine apps in 2012. It was named Children's Publisher of the Year at the 2012 Independent Publishing Awards.
