[prMac.com] San Francisco, California - Radiantlabs today is pleased to introduce Living Earth HD 1.0 for OS X, a Mac version of their best-selling World Clock & Weather app for iOS. Accessed from the menu bar, Living Earth HD provides a stunning, live, 3D simulation of our planet at our current moment in time with global weather, forecasts, and world clock for cities around the world. The New York Times named it to their list of Top 10 Apps of 2011, stating, "In a sea of more complicated and ambitious apps, Living Earth is beautifully simple."
Behind the elegance and simplicity of Living Earth HD are a host of technologies that set the app apart. Accessed from the menu bar, it opens to display a dramatic, simulated, near real-time view of all of Earth from space. Revealed are HD details of clouds, oceans, weather systems, continents, and city lights. Users can follow the movement of the Earth's terminator or grey line, which separates day from night. Users may enter any of millions of cities, towns, or landmarks contained in the app's database. Once set, the location remains in a permanent, scrolling list of cities, each entry showing a weather summary, temperature, and local time. Clicking on any city listed stops the spinning globe, zooms in, and instantly opens a complete weather forecast for the next seven days, plus up to date info on current weather conditions, including wind speed, humidity, and times for sunrise and sunset.
* World clock, weather and extended forecast for millions of cities around the world all quickly accessed from the menu bar
* Live clouds from near real-time satellite cloud data - updated every 3 hours
* Live desktop wallpaper with global cloud patterns, hurricanes, and tropical storms
* Screensaver feature - a living view of Earth as it appears now, as a screensaver
* Supports Mac Retina display
Living Earth HD is a desktop accessible interactive window into the world, showcasing a live view of the planet complete with light and shadow from the Sun, and the ethereal blue glow of the atmosphere. Always sharp and clear, the simulation eliminates the vagaries of live satellite feeds, and it updates cloud-rendering data every three hours for near real-time accuracy. Magnificent, photorealistic atmospheric effects are rendered with the aid of algorithms that calculate the Rayleigh scattering effect, which is responsible for diffuse sky radiation, that phenomenon that creates all the colors of the sky. Similarly, users can observe the changing seasons throughout the year, viewing snow and ice coverage, as well as other seasonal changes on our globe.
When naming the iOS version of Living Earth HD to their list of Must Have Apps, Wired Insider wrote, "A stunning app that shows the Earth in real time, based on global weather reports." And Apple's App Store Rewind 2011, five-star rating said, "Living Earth HD is proof that a world clock and weather app can be beautiful."
"Living Earth HD provides an amazing world clock and weather interface, wallpaper and screensaver by displaying a dramatic, near real-time view of the Earth," stated Moshen Chan, Founder of Radiantlabs. "The new Mac App will allow users to explore and showcase the amazing weather dynamics on our planet, while also providing the reliable world clock and weather features millions of iPhone and iPad users currently depend on every day."
