Stock + for Mac: Add a Ticker Tape To Your Menubar or Desktop
September 18, 2012 in Financial
[prMac.com] Bloomington, Illinois - Chimp Studios today is pleased to introduce Stock + and Stock + Pro for Mac OS X, two stock watching apps featuring customizable ticker tapes, graphs, and common stock metrics. These apps are perfect for investors who want to keep an eye on stocks, commodities, indexes, and mutual funds without disturbing their workflow. Both apps work by placing a scrolling stock ticker in the menubar (or if the user prefers, on the desktop) that when clicked will display a primary window containing more information along with the ability to add and remove securities, view graphs and detailed stock metrics, and customize various app settings.
Besides the minimalist tape ticker there is a primary window that has three main panels. The top left panel displays a list of the securities that the user is interested in. Each row shows the symbol, last known quote, point or percentage change, and the full security name. The top right panel contains details about the currently selected security including opening price, market cap, day high, day low, day volume, average volume, 52 week low, 52 week high, P/E, and if applicable the dividend yield. The bottom center panel shows a historic price graph that can be adjusted to show a timespan from 1 day to 5 years. Selecting multiple stocks from the securities list creates a comparison graph.
Stock + is a full-featured stock-watching application, but for those craving more features, Stock + Pro delivers with more themes, price alerts, company news, and chart customization options. With price alerts, users can specify conditions that will trigger an action such as displaying a notification or playing a sound. Stock + Pro aggregates RSS news stories and utilizes the Readability service to provide clutter free articles that users can print, email, tweet, or like from within the app. Charts can be further customized by adding common overlays such as Bollinger Bands, moving day averages, exponential moving day averages, and dividend payout dates.
The app sports a custom user interface that mimics the aluminum unibody construction of Apple's notebooks; pentalobular screws included. "We've been fine tuning and polishing these apps for about a month now and we are super excited to see how users respond," said Chimp Studios owner Andrew Schenk.
