[prMac.com] Toronto, Canada - Leo & Jacob today is pleased to announce Leo & Jacob's First Words 1.1 free for iOS, an update to its education app for toddlers that was recently cited by Apple in What's Hot in the U.S. App Store. Designed for young children from 18 months to 3 years old, parents read the word aloud, and kids identify the correct picture from a group of three. Unlike similar apps, it contains hundreds of different words and dozens of special effects and transitions that reward correct answers with applause, cheers, and celebratory computer graphics and animation.
* Vocabulary building, educational game for toddlers from 18 months to 3 years old
* Parents read the word aloud and kids identify the correct photo
* Toddlers must choose from three different photographs
* Correct answers are rewarded with applause, cheers, and festive computer graphics and animation
* Incorrect answers give the child the opportunity to learn from their mistakes
* Retina-display ready photographs, graphics, and animation
Leo & Jacob's First Words features nine Categories of vocabulary words, including: Animals, Fruits & Veggies, Musical Instruments, At Home, Human Body, Vehicles, Clothes, Food, and a Random mix from all categories. The first two categories are unlocked, and the remainder are accessed via an in-app purchase. The app is an extremely effective vocabulary builder, as kids have perfect, high-resolution photographs as examples of each word. In every category, toddlers are presented with a choice of three different photos, all depicting members of the same category. As they use the app, kids move through three levels of gameplay.
For example, in the Animals category, kids are challenged to "Tap on the dog," and they must correctly select the cocker spaniel from a photo array that includes a dog, an elephant, and a lion. Young players learn which picture is the dog, and simultaneously understand that dogs, elephants, and lions are all related to each other; all are animals. Wrong answers teach as effectively as right ones, as an incorrect choice causes the photo to rock slightly and the word connected to it appears for the parent to read aloud. Right answers make the correctly identified photo grow larger, and set off a fireworks display of computer animation.
The educational game is absolutely free of judgment, competition, timing, or scoring. Incorrect answers are learning opportunities that reward the player over time by preparing them for future questions. When kids do make the correct choice, they are encouraged by cheers, applause, and a seemingly never-ending variety of colorful computer animations. Following each explosion of colors and shapes, the app segues to the next question through one of dozens of eye-catching transitions including slides, wipes, and other special effects. With so many photographs, animations, and transitions, kids will never become bored playing Leo & Jacob's First Words.
"Leo & Jacob's First Words makes the process of learning new words equally enjoyable for kids and their parents," commented Eyal Katz of Leo & Jacob. "Toddlers and adults will spend countless hours of fun together, learning the basic words in the English vocabulary."
