Because so many writers use their iPhone or iPad to write, Christensen believed an app would be the perfect solution to beating writer's block. That idea spurred the creation of Prompts. This is an app that will motivate writers by providing them with creative prompts on what to write next, even if they haven't put a word onto the page yet.
When you open Prompts and press the + button, you'll see a unique starting line from a collection of hundreds. Use the presented starting line or write from scratch. Flip through starting lines at the touch of a button or by shaking your phone. From there, if you ever feel stuck while writing, just press the lightening bolt icon to be presented with one of hundreds of unique writing prompts.
Set daily reminders to keep your writing habits healthy, bookmark favorites or the projects you're working on, and even monitor your writing stats to see which days and times you're at your best.
Example creative prompts:
* How can you take a step back?
* Turn it into a wish
* Focus on only one detail
* Flip it around
* Zoom out 100x
* Who wasn't there?
* What doesn't happen next?
"Prompts is beautifully designed and elegantly simple, so you can focus on writing every day, easily."
Prompts works by giving you a starting point for either a new work of writing or for your next sentence. The purpose of prompts is to get you out of the psychological thinking loop that often causes writers to feel stuck. Because the brain works through connections, occasionally a train of thought will get stuck trying to find something new to connect to. The result? Often defeat, frustration, and stress. The more you try to come up with an idea about what to write, the harder it can become. Writing prompts cuts that circuit short by giving you a way out of the thinking loop and back to a new path of thinking.
Whether you want to write more just for fun or if you write for a profession, you are going to love how Prompts helps you write.
With the Prompts app users can see statistics about their writing habits, such as what hours of the day they write most (charted in a visual way), what day of they week they are most likely to write, and how many times they've used the app. All of which can be easily accessed from the Settings menu of the app.
Some prompts in the app are serious, others are fun or quirky. While most prompts are ideal for fantasy and fiction, they work just as well for any type of writing you can think of: from blogging and news articles, to school reports and journal entries.
"Even some of the most well-known writers, putting out book after book or article after article occasionally get stuck," commented Tanner Christensen. "Prompts is an easy way to beat the block and get back to writing."
