January 25, 2010 in User Groups (E)
[prMac.com] Los Angeles, CA - The Los Angeles Final Cut Pro User Group (lafcpug) will have its first meeting of 2010 on Wednesday January 27, 2010 beginning at 6:45PM at the Gallery Theater in Hollywood California. It will be "Plug-ins and More Night."
"Plug-ins are part of every editors suite of tools, however there are so many choices and many of them seem to do the same thing. It's difficult to keep up with what is out there or what might be the best choice," says Michael Horton founder of lafcpug. "So every once in awhile we showcase what we feel are some of the best and newest plug-ins for Final Cut Pro and Motion that every Final Cut Studio user should at least consider."
Scheduled to appear on the agenda will be Jim Tierney of Digital Anarchy who will show off the brand new "Beauty Box plug-in for After Effects and FCP. "Beauty Box." is the next generation in skin retouching software. By using advanced techniques like Face Detection, this skin retouching plug-in will automatically identify skin tones, while preserving important facial features. It makes the process of retouching video easier than ever with this retouch plug-in.
Bruce Gee of GeeThree plug-ins will show off PhotoMotion, Fusion Factory and SlickFX for FCP.
Movie Color from Sheffield Softworks is a plug-in for use within Final Cut Pro or Motion that gives you the ability to apply stylized "looks" to your footage. It comes with over 40 such looks pre-designed in the form of named presets. Many of these looks were developed from popular films such as Transformers, Harry Potter, Pelham 123. Andy Neil will show it off
QC - Effects are plug-ins for adding over 380 visual effects to Final Cut Pro/Express and Motion. All effects use your graphics card hardware for the fastest possible rendering. QC-Effects comes with effects that include Comic Book, Hearts, 3D Video Wall, Plasma, Glass, Sky, Aquarium, Snow, TV, Pencil and lots more. Rod Kent will show off.
Lori Freitag from RE:Vision Effects, will provide an overview of their plug-ins for FCP. RE:Vision Effects provides professional solutions for retiming, denoising, deinterlacing, motion blur and other tools to enhance your Final Cut experience.
In addition lafcpug plans another round of "Stump The Gurus," which consists of a panel of FCS experts who attempt to answer all your questions and solve all your problems concerning Final Cut Studio. Rounding out the evening will be show and tells from local filmmakers and the always fun and wild "World Famous Raffle."
Horton states that lafcpug meetings are for everyone interested or using Final Cut Studio or digital filmmaking in general. He goes on to say that everyone is welcome no matter their level of expertise.
"You can learn a lot at a lafcpug meeting," says Horton. "But it's the people you will meet that is most important. In this business you must get out of the house and network. It's difficult enough to get work, but when no one knows who you are it's impossible. Plus, if you have any problems, chances are someone will be there that has the solution. lafcpug meetings are a great place to get known as well as get your problems solved."
The doors will open to the Gallery Theater in Hollywood at 6:00PM and the meeting will begin at 6:45PM. Admission is only $5.00. It's first come, best seat. More information about this event as well as directions to the Gallery Theater can be found on the lafcpug web site.
