[prMac.com] Bristol, United Kingdom - Hobbyist Software has released VLC Remote 4.11, an update to their bestselling app for iPhone and iPod touch now allows iPhone users to control DVDs. VLC remote gives iPhone users complete control of VLC through their iPhone. They can use VLC's legendary ability to play just about any media file - whilst controlling it from their sofa.
VLC Remote enables all the controls you would normally expect in a traditional remote - but also allows you to browse your entire computer to select and play files. Selected for Gizmodo essential iPhone apps in 2008, 2009 and 2010, the bestselling VLC Remote by Hobbyist Software has now had over 2 million downloads.
The feature most requested by users has been the addition of DVD controls, and with 4.0, VLC remote provides that. VLC 4 also allows users to control audio tracks, subtitles and aspect ratios, audio and subtitle delays. Finally, VLC 4 introduces multi-touch sliders. These use the iPhone's familiar pinch-to-zoom multi-touch interface to work around the traditional limitations of the default sliders.
"Traditional sliders are really limited when you want to select a position in a film" says Rob Jonson, CEO and Founder of Hobbyist Software. "They are fine for making large changes; skipping from the beginning to the middle of a movie or show, but if you want to move by a couple of minutes, or even seconds - then they don't have the fine level of control that is needed. Multi-touch sliders allow you to zoom in so that you can adjust the position by a few seconds at a time - or zoom out and adjust by an hour at a time. You can now have complete VLC control from your iPhone!"
