IsoWords for iPhone adds Multiplayer and Global Leaderboards

February 25, 2010 in Games (E)

[] Brooklyn, New York - Opetopic has just reduced the price and released a huge update for IsoWords, the first word search game on a three dimensional cube! While IsoWords pays homage to many of the basic principles of the word search genre, Opetopic has made it their big, hairy, audacious goal to quite literally add some dimensions of their own (pun intended!). With additions like global leaderboards, 3 local multiplayer modes, and daily challenges, Opetopic is celebrating the update by bringing the price of IsoWords to $0.99 for a limited time on the iTunes App Store!

Gameplay is based on connecting adjacent letters to form words, similar to Boggle, although with Isowords the twist is that the letters are placed on a 3D cube similar to a Rubik's Cube. When any letter is used 3 times, the cube piece is destroyed and as the cube erodes, more letters are revealed!

Those who are new to word games will have no problem jumping into IsoWords and exercising their inner word finder. They can select from time limits of 1-5 minutes, or choose to shirk time constraints with "free play" mode. Longer words with rarer letters garner more points, and the new version now uploads scores to a global leaderboard. They show high scores for each time limit, highest scoring individual words, and can be sorted to show everyone in the world, or just Twitter and Facebook friends.

Local multiplayer support over either Wifi or Bluetooth builds on the originals turn-based multiplayer mode. As long as one player has a full (paid) version of IsoWords, up to four players can play any of the 3 multiplayer gameplay modes. Opponents can play the exact same puzzle with everyone's words showing on all screens, simultaneously play the same puzzle but without being affected by each others' play, or set a time limit for each word in order to take the emphasis off of speed play and let players seek out longer words.

New daily challenges let all players share in a global multiplayer option, by playing the same daily puzzle, and comparing their word finding skills via a custom leaderboard calendar. "It's always great to play games with your friends, whether you're all together or on opposite sides of the world", says Brandon Williams, lead developer of IsoWords and founder of Opetopic. Any puzzle and its respective score can be sent as a challenge to friends through Facebook, Twitter or email. The recipient can click on the link and play the exact same puzzle as their challenger. Whether they drop the smack-down or fail miserably, the rebuttal score can be posted as well!"

"With local multiplayer, daily challenges and the ability to send personal challenges, we've expanded the social aspects of IsoWords so that everyone can play each other from anywhere!" says Williams. "Combined with a new standardized wordlist, a lower price, and the unique and challenging game mechanics of the original, IsoWords is fantastic for anyone interested in playing compelling word games on the iPhone."
