December 20, 2007 in Software (E)

[] Coeur d'Alene (Idaho, USA) - December 19, 2007 - DEVONtechnologies, LLC releases updates for all editions of its information manager DEVONthink and for DEVONnote making them finally searchable through Spotlight. In addition the freeware applications XMenu, EasyFind, ThumbsUp, and PhotoStickies are updated for Mac OS X 10.5, too.

DEVONthink Pro Office 1.5, DEVONthink Pro 1.5, DEVONthink 1.9.12, and DEVONnote 1.9.12 now natively support Spotlight. All databases for which Spotlight support has been activated keep a metadata cache that enables Spotlight to find documents stored in DEVONthink or DEVONnote. Selecting a search result in either the Spotlight menu or the 'Searching "This Mac"' window opens the corresponding database and displays the found document. Effectively this also makes it for the first time possible to search multiple databases at the same time.

In addition, the 50-page limit of the built-in OCR of DEVONthink Pro Office has been removed due to an updated, less restrictive license for the embedded IRIS OCR engine. All four applications come with an improved advertisement filter, more reliably communicate with their background tasks, and feature better JavaScript support.

The updates for XMenu, EasyFind, ThumbsUp, and PhotoStickies bring compatibility to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. In addition, XMenu comes with new menu icons as well as a new application icon. ThumbsUp creates thumbnails optimized for Mac OS X 10.4 or later, and all four applications have been optimized for the current generations of Mac OS X. XMenu is becoming even more useful now with the switch from folder menus in the Dock to stacks in Leopard. XMenu gives full access to the Applications, Documents, Developer, and Home folders as well as a user-defined folder right from the menu bar. EasyFind and XMenu are now also available in Italian localization, XMenu additionally in Swedish.

Availability And Pricing:
All applications require Mac OS X 10.4 or later and can be downloaded from DEVONthink and DEVONnote can be test-driven for free for 150 hours of non-continuous runtime until they need to be properly licensed; XMenu, EasyFind, ThumbsUp, and PhotoStickies can be used free of charge.
