DDMX-S2 Digital I/O Controller Automates Stop-Motion Animation Lighting

May 17, 2010 in Multimedia (E)

[prMac.com] Encinitas, California - D-Zed Software today is pleased to introduce their new DDMX-S2 Digital Lighting Controller, an I/O device for use with their Dragon Stop Motion 2.1 stop-frame animation software for Mac or Windows. When used in conjunction with standard DMX protocol dimmer/switcher packs, the DDMX-S2 permits automated, software control of: up to 99 different lighting channels; work lights; front-light/back-light sequences; keyframe based lighting programs. The device also operates as a software controlled trigger for a: RED camera, film camera, or unsupported still camera; motion control system; computer running Dragon Stop Motion.

The DDMX-S2 is a USB powered device requiring no adapters or dongles for installation. It uses standard drivers that can be easily installed through the Help menu of Dragon Stop Motion. It employs a standard, 3-pin XLR socket as a DMX512 protocol lighting control port (a common 3-pin to 5-pin adapter may be necessary). The device easily drives hundreds of feet into a fully terminated 120 ohm load. In addition to lighting control, the unit can trigger external devices using a relay, logic, or GPI (General Purpose Interface) level signal.

Feature Highlights:
* D-Zed Software introduces their own hardware Digital I/O Lighting Controller
* The DDMX-S2 is an optional accessory for the widely used Dragon Stop Motion
* Control of the DDMX-S2 is integrated into the stop-frame animation software
* The digital I/O device can control lighting with a DMX dimmer/switcher pack
* The DDMX-S2 fully automates complex lighting animation programs
* The Dragon software controls most cameras - the DDMX-S2 can be used for the rest
* Turns bash light (work light) on and off
* Create and preview keyframe-based lighting program from within Dragon Stop Motion
* Trigger motion control systems (Kuper, Flair) from within Dragon Stop Motion

To prevent any possible damage to the host computer from badly grounded peripherals, all DDMX-S2 outputs and inputs are optically isolated from the host USB bus. The I/O channels "float" electrically relative to the USB, thereby minimizing the opportunity for ground loops.

"We are very proud to introduce our own hardware devices, specifically designed to work with Dragon Stop Motion 2.1," said Jamie Caliri, co-founder of D-Zed Software. "This is really a giant step forward in simplifying lighting automation in stop-frame animation."
