[prMac.com] Kitchener, Ontario Canada - RapidWeaver theme developer seyDoggy takes another big leap forward in RapidWeaver theme development with the release of Havnit Ultimate, their most advanced theme to date. Introducing new "smart navigation", "smart layout" and an advanced built-in slide show, as well as embracing future forward technologies like CSS3 and HTML5, Havnit is on the cutting edge of RapidWeaver theme development.
Having recently released Flavorite, their first ever smart theme, seyDoggy is moving forward with the concept of "smart themes" with Havnit. While Havnit looks and acts the same as any other seyDoggy RapidWeaver theme, it works a little differently - intelligently - which makes a great many things possible.
"Theme developers previously had to account for end users' choice to opt into or out of some of RapidWeaver's built in features by creating numerous and often insignificant theme options," explains seyDoggy lead developer Adam Merrifield. "Havnit's new smart layout is able to automatically detect and account for the presence of a footer, a breadcrumb, enabled navigation, and even ExtraContent."
Havnit also breaks some new ground in navigation. A number of years ago, seyDoggy pioneered and popularized the commercial use of the split navigation in RapidWeaver themes. While the technique is now used in nearly every major theme available, the method is not without drawbacks, as the entire navigation is often duplicated many times over within the source code. Havnit employs a smarter navigation - a single instance of the menu system that is carefully and efficiently distributed to cover all of the top level and sub level navigation components. Merrifield says that the end result is a multi-tiered navigation system that is produced with 50% to 66% less markup, which in turn means much cleaner, more semantic code.
Following the trail blazed by a few other RapidWeaver theme developers, seyDoggy is adopting future forward methods and employing the new HTML5 and CSS3 working drafts. Because of this, seyDoggy is fast tracking on their upcoming modern browsers support policy by a few months. Havnit officially supports IE8+, Safari 4+, Firefox 3.5+, Opera 10.5+, Chrome 5+. Havnit is said to work with IE6 and IE7 but the experience may be somewhat hindered by speed.
Merrifield says that Havnit is not just about brains - it's about beauty and power too. "Havnit is one of Chris Cifonie's finest designs yet and is packed with layout width, header heights, variable width sidebar, and fonts galore. In fact, the advanced features in Havnit are actually aware of each other and their standard feature counterparts. This means that Havnit watches some of your theme selections and acts accordingly where needed, providing better plugin and browser support."
As a seyDoggy Ultimate theme, Havnit comes fully loaded with powerful features, including a built in slideshow, 3 tier smart navigation, rounded corners, ExtraContent, and a variety of others:
* Selectable, customizable slideshow
* 4 ExtraContent areas
* RWmultitool ready

For more information on the Havnit theme, there is a video walkthrough courtesy of RapidWeaver Classroom. RapidWeaver Classroom continues to expand its diversity of training material with a new series on Content Management Systems. The series is already underway with some tutorials available now, and once complete it will be a comprehensive resource demonstrating many different CMS options - utilizing RapidWeaver plugins, stacks and other 3rd-party solutions to allow for user-editable content directly through any web browser. In addition, RapidWeaver Classroom continues to grow its Stacks training library, releasing tutorials on many new custom stacks that make designing great websites even easier, and more fun.
Havnit is one of many RapidWeaver themes enabled with the popular ExtraContent feature, an open source collaborative technology that allows usable content spaces in RapidWeaver (e.g. built-in blog pages, photo albums, Flash slideshows, or iFrame pages) to be extended beyond what the application would normally allow, offering the user additional usable space and, along with that, a wide variety of new opportunities for enhanced creative expression. With ExtraContent, it is now possible to add a personal touch to previously unreachable areas of a page, by adding a lifestream (Twitter, LastFM, Delicious, etc.) below a blog page, adding a Web 2.0 footer to a site's file sharing page, or performing another of the many potential modifications.
* Mac OS X Version 10.4.11 Tiger, 10.5.2 Leopard or 10.6.x Snow Leopard
* Universal Binary for PowerPC and Intel
* RapidWeaver 3.6.7 or RapidWeaver 4.x
