[prMac.com] Palo Alto, California - A 14 year old developer has just released his newest game, Jumbled, for the iPhone and iPod touch. Jumbled is an innovative word game that combines the challenge of unscrambling words with the simplicity of word matching. In its first few weeks on the App Store, Jumbled has already seen success by reaching the Top 50 paid word games in the US and was also featured by Apple as a New and Noteworthy app. Reviewers have praised Jumbled for unique gameplay that has never been seen before on the App Store.
The young developer of Jumbled, Drew, is responsible for all aspects of the development process, from programming to designing the graphics. Drew has been developing iPhone apps for over a year, after teaching himself Objective C. "During the academic year, I usually have trouble finding a long enough period to keep my mind entirely focused on programming. But being able to quickly change my train of thought from school work to programming has turned out to be a useful skill." This summer, before starting his freshman year at high school, Drew interned at a Mountain View based startup. Working mostly from home, he developed social iPhone, iPad, and Android apps for the company, which runs a social networking website. "Not only did I get to spend more time this summer than ever before doing what I love," Drew comments, "but I also got to experience the exciting atmosphere of a startup. I'm extremely lucky to have been given this opportunity."
Word games have become immensely popular, with people of all ages finding enjoyment in exercising their minds. Scrambled word games can be particularly challenging by requiring a combination of word recognition and human intuition. In Jumbled, users are presented with a scrambled word that they must unscramble and then match with a related word from four possibilities. This multistep process must be carried out within a certain time limit and points are awarded depending on how quickly the user correctly matches the unscrambled word. As the game progresses, players are increasingly challenged as the words get longer and the timer runs more quickly. Users can also work towards unlocking achievements in the game and competing in online leaderboards. As Ryan Johnson of SlapApp wrote when reviewing the game, "Do you have what it takes to conquer Jumbled?"
