[prMac.com] Minsk, Belarus - oofsource today is pleased to announce Scare Factor 1.0 for iOS, their entertainment app designed to scare unwary friends, capture their reaction, and post it on Twitter or Facebook. On the pretext of playing an enjoyable game of finding the small differences between two nearly identical photos, a friend holds the device and stares intently at the screen. Soothing music plays as the game gives them time to think when, suddenly, they are subjected to a bone-chilling close-up of a screaming zombie. While the app runs on all iOS devices, the photo-capture feature works only on the iPhone 4.
A well known children's game around the world, and a feature of many publications including the mass-market People Magazine, finding small differences between two side-by-side, seemingly identical photos is fun for all ages. Some incongruities may be obvious, but often the puzzle solver must look carefully to locate the number of differences required. It is this single-minded focus and expectation that Scare Factor exploits. Just as the player reaches their level of greatest concentration, a surrealistic, screaming ghoul assaults their senses and emotions.

The app is carefully designed to appear completely legitimate. Its non-descript screen icon reads only "SF", and on launch the player sees three framed, color illustrations. Beneath each is the parameter of each puzzle, as they are labeled "3 Differences," "5 Differences," and "7 Differences." The on-screen instructions advise "Select a Picture," and "Find the Differences." When the mark taps on one of the illustrations the game begins, and the picture appears next to itself, filling the screen. Thoughtful music plays in the background. If the player taps somewhere on a picture, testing a hunch, a red text message "NO" comes up underneath.
"Nothing makes people laugh like after they've been suddenly scared," commented company President Denis Berekchiyan. "Scare Factor 1.0 + HD + Frontal Camera Snapshot for iPhone 4 is scary, unexpected fun."
