[prMac.com] DEVONAGENT

DEVONagent 2.1 brings new features as well as a large number of little enhancements. New search engine plugins have been added and all plugins and scanners have been updated. Bookmarks can be conveniently accessed now through the Dock menu, tabs show a thumbnail preview of the displayed Web page in a tooltip, and the new ‘next’ operator comes in handy when entering more complex queries using parenthesis. Also, nearly all plugins can be assigned a keyword for quickly entering a query in the Web browser’s address field, the ‘See Also’ functions returns better results, and the advertisement filter is more accurate. DEVONagent 2.1 is more compatible to Web pages with bad encodings and wrong HTML code, and many other minor enhancements improve the user experience as well as the overall performance.

Version 1.9.9 of DEVONthink Personal brings it in line with its larger brothers. The update features all the technology and interface enhancements already introduced with DEVONthink Professional (Office), from the pop-up menu of the toolbar search field that remembers recent searches to a more reliable ‘See Also’ and ‘Classify’ function, faster searching, and the possibility to scroll PDF documents with the mouse (while the Command key is held) on Mac OS X 10.4 or later. New plain text file types have been added, documents that are converted while importing are logged, and DEVONthink shows whether a document is locked or otherwise read-only.

Like DEVONagent, DEVONthink Personal 1.9.9 comes with a large number of small interface improvements as well as performance and memory management enhancements that make it faster and easier to use.

DEVONthink Professional 1.3.1 and DEVONthink Professional Office 1.3.1 are maintenance updates that enhance the compatibility to some third-party applications, e.g., Bookends, improve the results of ‘See Also’ and ‘Classify’ as well as the AppleScript performance. The handling of relative links, e.g., in the Download Manger is more compatible and the memory management is more efficient. Finally, the French and German localizations have been updated.

All applications require Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later, for DEVONagent a reasonably fast Internet connection is recommended. The new versions are immediately available from www.devon-technologies.com and can be test-driven for free for 150 hours (DEVONthink) or 60 hours (DEVONagent) of runtime respectively until they need to be properly licensed; the email import function of DEVONthink Professional Office is limited to 200 messages per day and the OCR function is limited to 20 documents per day during the trial period. The updates are free for all registered users.

DEVONagent sells for US$ 49.95, DEVONthink Personal for US$ 39.95, DEVONthink Professional for US$ 79.95, and DEVONthink Professional Office for US$ 149.95 in DEVONtechnologies’ online shop. DEVONagent and DEVONthink Professional (Office) are also available as as bundle for US$ 99.95 or US$ 169.95 respectively. Users of a lower edition of DEVONthink are able to upgrade to a higher edition for the price difference. Upgrade coupons are available.

The knowledge of mankind doubles every one to two years, speed increasing. How to cope with this unbelievable huge mass of data? How to find that very document one is looking for? How to find the answer to a question?

DEVONagent is the solution for those who are tired of clicking hundreds of links delivered by Google & Co. just to find out that most of the links are either outdated, broken or lead to junk pages. It communicates with search engines, digs through all the results and presents only those documents that are really worth reading. Also, it summarizes the accumulated knowledge and make it available as a list of the most important topics and an interactive mind map. Finding information on the Web has never been easier!

DEVONagent finds, collects and organizes information with a powerful search architecture, a simple to use built-in archive and perfect integration with DEVONthink. More than 130 plugins for popular search engines, databases and search tools, predefined search sets, and a clean Mac-like user interface make DEVONagent the number one tool for finding information on the web for the Mac.

DEVONthink companion: DEVONagent can send search results as plain or rich text, web archive or as PDF directly to a DEVONthink database with just one click and from any view. Then, one can use DEVONthink’s intelligence to organize it.

In today’s world, everything is digital. From shopping receipts to important research papers, peoples’ lives often fill their hard drives in the form of emails, PDFs, Word documents, multimedia files and more. Questions eventually pop up, like where to store all of this stuff? How to organize these very different file types, and even better, how to find the exact file one is looking for the second one needs it? It’s almost as if one needs a second brain just to keep one’s digital life straight.

Enter DEVONthink: The solution to this digital age conundrum. It is a second brain, the one and only database for all digital files, be they PDFs, emails, Word documents or even multimedia files. Boasting a refined artificial intelligence, DEVONthink is exceedingly flexible and adapts to the user’s personal needs. And if the files are not digital yet, paper capture support is already built-in (DEVONthink Pro Office only.)

Users can use it as their document repository, their filing cabinet, their email archive, or their project organizer; DEVONthink can do it all. One can even collect and organize data from the web, enrich it with sound and movie files, and then export the finished product as a website or to an Apple Pages document to print. Or one can copy the content to an iPod! The possibilities are only as limited as the user’s imagination.

Because DEVONthink keeps all important data in one database, it doesn’t matter where the data is physically located. DEVONthink uniquely integrates both local documents and live content from the Internet to keep all project-related information together in one place. No more folders full of loosely organized files and overflowing bookmark bars in Safari; with DEVONthink, the user seamlessly mixes local documents, clippings, and live web pages in one dynamic database.

DEVONthink is not only a simple database, it's a flexible work environment, too, with powerful management features suited to any professional project. It provides the user with all the tools she or he needs to effectively work with documents. The integrated RTF editor makes it easy to write new documents, or the users can open documents in a third-party application.

DEVONthink is based on a powerful artificial intelligence (AI) architecture that helps organize and navigate information collections quickly and accurately. It assists its users with both filing documents and with finding similar items, and can help make connections that they might have missed on their own. It can even master huge data collections with a few simple clicks, saving time and aggravation.

Finally, DEVONthink Pro Office allows to share the accumulated and organized knowledge. Users can post it to their websites, or they can let their coworkers access databases with a familiar search-engine like interface using standard web browsers. Depending on the network setup, it’s even possible to search shared databases over the Internet.
