[prMac.com] Atlanta, Georgia - Samsung announced today at CES Las Vegas that MOVL, an Atlanta-based technology startup that develops Social TV Apps, has been named the winner of Samsung's Free the TV Challenge with their WeDraw TV App, The Magical Living Room Game. MOVL's WeTeli TV App, a Social Video Jukebox, was also a finalist in the contest and received an honorable mention and prize money.
"We are honored to be recognized as pioneers of this TV App Revolution." said Juan Pablo Gnecco, Founder and CEO of MOVL after receiving the award. "Connected TV's are bringing all kinds of opportunities for innovation and we decided to focus on Social TV Apps. While technology sometimes pulls us apart, we love that our applications bring friends and families together again, back to the living room, engaging with magical and fun experiences around the TV. Mobile can be lonely, TV is social again.... and bigger!"
The winning apps, WeTeli and WeDraw bring people together to watch, play and share using mobile devices that connect to SmartTVs.
WeTeli invites people to share their favorite videos right on a SmartTV. The experience becomes social when people vote on other's videos, pushing them up and down in the queue, and adding comments and feedback right on the screen. WeTeli creates mini social networks in public spaces using the SmartTV as the social hub. WeDraw is a magical living room game, that lets people compete by guessing another player's drawing. One person draws using their finger on a smart phone, the others guess.
"This contest was a great opportunity to showcase our MOVL Connect(R) Platform that connects mobile devices to TVs and allows for quick deployment of engaging social experiences. Our platform supports multi-user and multi-device connectivity, so the possibilities are endless.", said Alan Queen, Founder and CTO of MOVL.
Samsungs "Free the TV Challenge" was created to generate new and exciting ideas for connected TV experiences. Developers nationwide were invited to submit their best ideas for TV apps across a range of categories, from sports to social networking.
