Speak Shan is the First iPhone App for Learning the Shan Language

[prMac.com] Yokohama, Japan - Nagaraja Rivers today is pleased to announce the release of Speak Shan 1.0, the first ever iPhone app for learning the Shan Language. Shan is spoken by over three million people in Shan State of Burma, northern Thailand, and southern China. The Shan language is also known as Tai and Thai-Yai. It is very closely related to the Thai and Lao languages. The Speak Shan app is based mostly on the dialect of Shan spoken in northern Thailand. The app is a talking phrasebook and vocabulary builder containing over 400 words and phrases with audio playback recorded by a native Shan speaker.

Each phrase is presented with a phonetic transcription that indicates the tone of each syllable. The phrases in Speak Shan are based on the pronunciation and use of the Shan dialect that is spoken in northern Thailand, such as in Mae Hong Son province.
