PDF 1.6.7 for iOS - View Oversize and Multi-Page PDF Documents Easily

April 4, 2011 in Business (E)

[prMac.com] Sidney, BC, Canada - Corporate Smalltalk Consulting today is pleased to announce PDF 1.6.7 for iOS, an update to their document viewer app that allows the user to view both oversize and large multi-page PDF documents easily. The app employs proprietary Can Opener technology to convert and pre-render large documents for smooth scrolling and zooming. In addition to PDF files of thousands of pages, PDF 1.6.7 can easily handle page sizes as large as 44 x 44 inches. The app includes Dropbox download only connectivity, and can open PDFs stored locally in such apps as Mail, Books, etc. Developed specifically to prevent slow-downs and crashes when viewing large PDF files on an iOS device, the latest update, PDF 1.6.7, can accommodate a single page larger than 7,200 square inches, and includes the new version 2.0 rendering engine.

PDF enables viewing of multi-page and oversize PDFs by first importing the entire file into its storage area. Once imported, the file undergoes one-time pre-rendering that ensures the document is re-scaled to be optically correct and to provide the fastest possible rendering when viewing a multi-page document. The user can open documents into PDF via drag and drop in iTunes, and via "Open in..." from Mail, Books, or a Dropbox account. PDF does not need to be running to open documents from other apps.

Feature Highlights:
* Accelerated, multi-page PDF file reading
* Uses proprietary Can Opener technology to import, store, and pre-render documents
* Pre-rendering allows smooth scrolling and display
* Dropbox file download compatibility
* App can never alter or delete user files from Dropbox
* Responsive H/V scrolling and zooming through large documents
* Sophisticated Cache Manager
* Supports multi-tasking, allowing pre-processing to be done in the background

Operation of PDF is simple on all iOS devices, irrespective of screen size or built-in memory. The user may open standard, single-page PDF documents automatically. Multi-page and oversize documents require the user to tap the Pre-Render button, wait for the screen to turn green, and then touch the Viewer button. Pre-render times vary according to the size of the document and the iOS device, but the process need be done only once. Having been pre-rendered, the document is permanently stored in its pre-rendered, Hippo view. With oversize documents up to 44 x 44 inches, there is continuous, smooth scrolling with no tiling effects. Maximum single document size is as large as 110 x 66 inches, 7,260 square inches.

"PDF documents have become ubiquitous in business, manufacturing, technology, construction and many other areas," stated Corporate Smalltalk Consulting President, John McIntosh. "Now, with PDF 1.6.7, owners of iOS devices can smoothly display PDF documents of almost any size; scroll horizontally or vertically, and zoom in and out with no waiting."
