[prMac.com] Stargard Szczecinski, Poland - Anawiki Games has announced the release of Avalon Legends Solitaire, an entrancing solitaire game set in the mysterious land of Avalon. It's the second game in Anawiki's Avalon series, and also their second solitaire game, following last year's release of Soccer Cup Solitaire.
"We've been wanting to do a sequel to Runes of Avalon for a while now," says Roman Budzowski, Anawiki owner and lead developer, "but at the same time, we were really happy with how Soccer Cup Solitaire turned out, and wanted to do another solitaire game. We were debating which to do next, when it occurred to me that we could do both."
The game casts the player in the shoes of one of Avalon's mighty Druids, on a quest to restore the Deck of Nature. Just like the runes in the first Avalon game, the power of the Druids' cards is only unlocked when they are placed in the correct sequence.
As the players progress through the game, traveling the wilderness of Avalon, they seek to find and collect magic cards, scattered among the regular cards in each level. As these magic cards are collected, they gradually replace the original cards of the player's deck, increasing its power (and the points the player earns). Once the deck is completely restored, the player is ready to save Avalon.
"This isn't a straight-up solitaire game where you just play one hand at a time, then start over," explains Budzowski. "You're on a quest, and there's a real feeling of progress through the game. Each stage is made up of a series of levels, and you've got different goals to accomplish in each stage, as well as the larger mission of collecting the magic cards."
These goals include such things as clearing all cards in certain number of levels in the stage, leaving fewer than a target number of cards in total, scoring a certain number of points, or putting together a combo of a certain minimum length. Some levels include additional challenges, such as cards encased in rock or frozen in ice, each with their own trick to free them.
The magic cards aren't the only thing to collect, either. Wild cards are also to be found, which can be kept for later, to get the player out of a tight spot. Furthermore, the player earns cash to spend at the Magic Store between levels, purchasing artifacts that provide such perks as increased deck size, extra undos, or the ability to peek at cards.
"We wanted to make sure the gameplay always feels fresh," says Budzowski, "so we incorporated several different collection mechanics and the ability to buy power-ups. This way the player's always got either a short-term goal they're working towards, or a new item they want to try out - something to make them excited to play one more level."
Avalon Legends Solitaire features 20 stages, each with its own beautiful background art and as many as 10 levels per stage, for a total of 200 unique levels in all. There are 12 magical power-ups to be purchased, and an achievements system to scratch players' completionist itch.
