[prMac.com] Dayton, Ohio - Verietas Software is pleased to announce the release of eNotify 1.2 today, an app that provides private and secure custom email alerts. eNotify is the only app in the App Store than can provide private and secure custom local notification and sound alerts for your incoming email. Email account information is stored in the app and your account and email data never leave the device. The app operates as a server in the background and alerts you when your configured alert settings are met.
"The default audio alerts in iOS are inherently limiting," said Joshua Pressnell, Verietas Software founder, "Apple devices let you specify custom ringtone sounds, but that's it. There is no way to configure custom text or email alerts and with email, you only get the one sound. Users who have used the email clients on nearly any other device expect more. eNotify fills that niche and provides custom email message alerts and advanced features that are missing in the basic capability provided by default in Apple's iOS." eNotify comes with over 150 audio alerts out of the box and allows the user to add their own new sounds via iTunes File Sharing or record their own alerts directly on the device (requires an external mic on devices without one built-in).
The premier capability of the app is the ability to configure several advanced behaviors associated with mail alerts. In addition to specifying a default custom alert sound for all email, the user can enable or disable audio alerts, configure a custom "do not disturb" period where no alerts are generated, and configure whether an individual account will display local notification popups for new messages. Users can also specify custom alerts for specific accounts, people, email subjects, and recipient keywords or addresses. These individual alerts override the default settings and provide a unique level of awareness about new emails, all without ever opening the phone.
"We've reached email overload in modern society", said Pressnell, "and eNotify allows the user to filter out the noise of everyday email flow and focus in on priority messages. Other apps have attempted to meet this niche need, but have only been able to provide the capability using push notices, which requires your email to be processed by an external 3rd party. That's a non-starter for any corporate user and generally for any conscious home user as well. With eNotify, your email and account data never leave your device."
eNotify uses local alerts instead of push notices to notify users of new messages, using a technology Verietas Software pioneered to keep apps alive and functional in the iOS background. The app remains active in the background, even while the user does other things on the device. It does as little work as possible, preserving battery life, and only wakes up periodically to check email.
